    Hi Guys,
I'm Beth and I'm new to the forum. I have had my 1972 GS convertible for almost 15 years. I bought her from the proverbial old lady first owner with 68,000 miles. We're up to 78,000 now and it's time for me to put forth a little effort in sprucing her up. Tomorrow my husband and I will hopefully get the new carpet in. I got it from Specialty, the color looks good. The car is bamboo with green interior.

I know NOTHING about car restoration or engines or parts. I do know enough that I want to keep her as original as I can. This is probably why I haven't done much so far. I hope I can get advice from you all as I attack the little things before I suck it up and get her painted.

    Thanks!

    Beth p

Welcome from northern California! I would guess you are from down south, you said "you all" in your post. :) My dad is a southern boy (90 years old) and he says you all.

    Wow, what a nice welcome!

    It is a 350 GS.

I was five months pregnant with kid #2 when I dragged my husband to look at the car and insisted that I had to have it. He wasn't even irritated when I insisted it was MINE and I would let him drive it sometimes. He's a really good sport. :)

In the meantime, two kids, braces, three jobs, rental houses, all that crap has kept us from really doing much with the car. Plus, honestly, she doesn't look bad and has never had any kind of mechanical problem. (thank GOD). I've had the wiring brought back and an after market alarm removed. Had dual exhaust installed (a little loud for me). Lost a brake line once and I think they replaced some other lines then. I met a guy the other day who said that a good auto body shop can "bring the paint back" with a buffer. He's promised me to get the guy's number. We'll see how that goes!

How would I find a green piece for the steering column? I'm pretty sure the car was stolen from the old lady back in the day. She and her husband had it locked up in the garage, all the windows painted black...Also, does anyone know where I could get the clock fixed and those gauges fixed up? (I warned you I have no idea!)

I'm in Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. So not Southern.

I'll try to add a couple photos.

This board has a very nice search function. You will find that many other folks have had similar questions in the past and you can benefit from their inquiries. The clock can be rebuilt or, even better, converted to quartz. Search the board for "clock".
The piece on your steering column is metal and can be painted. It is a significant effort to remove for painting so I would leave that job to a good mechanic.
    again - welcome!

Welcome aboard Beth! Post in parts wanted for the steering wheel. Your gauge cluster can be spruced up with some touch up paint and new woodgrain kit for a easy fix. Or you could pull the cluster get it redone and make it look brand new like I did at one point. Not sure about the clock but I know they sell quartz replacements to use if you want to try that route.

Was the aftermarket alarm one of the keyed systems with a siren. That is what my 72 convertible had when I got her.

Now she is in pieces in the shop and someday will be back on the road again (next year:pray: )

Onle thing I can tell you about restoration is what ever you honestly think it will cost, double it:rant:

Good luck and welcome from MN
