  2. After some exstensive research and much reading i have learned that what i have is a rare MC1 Muncie HD 3 speed transmission. very few made since most SS chevell and high perormance camaro buyers opted for a th400 or a 4 speed.

not sure about rare maybe hard to find i have owned 6 gto's with a 3 speed on the floor.
many gm musclecars a 3 speed was the base tranny 400 turbo & 4 speed were optional. out of 30 thousand manual equipped 68 gto's i would bet 5 thousand were 3 speed cars.i have owned 6 total and i live out in the stix.

  4. A lot of muscle cars came with the dearborn 3 speed. others came with a borg Warner 3 speed. the low hp level cars came with saginaw 3 speeds and higher hp had muncie 3 speeds as the base transmission. the MC1 was a hd 3 speed and is a fairly rare 3 speed.. it's not the same as a standard muncie 3 speed. they came behind 396 and 427 SS chevelles and elcaminos as well as some of the higher hp first and second generation camaros. they have double row bearings instead of the single row like saginaws have. according to D&L transmission they are as strong if not stronger than an M20 or M21.

I saw a 1970 GS(can't remember exactly if it was a 350/455 or even maybe a stage 1?) on ebay one time that had a 3 speed on the floor. It was a dark blue color, anyone else remember this car? Everyone was saying how rare it was. I don't know about chevelles/or ponchos, but I know a Muncie 3 speed on the floor wasn't very popular in GS's. Congrats on the find! :TU:

Have you decided on the power plant yet?

I take it you're seriously considering a 3-speed. I think that's a real good choice considering the price, and the broad torque or a reasonably mild 455. I doubt you'd lose much performance compared to a 4-gear.

I have a 70 GS 350 3 speed on the floor. One of 176. One of 36 if you consider it's an Air car.

Hi Bob - Do you have that S/P switch you offered in the other post? I'm sorry to hijack this thread but I need to find one and you said you had one.
    Thanks - Bill
