Two things, first I can't get the distributor to drop all the way down. This is a rebuilt 72 350 that hasn't been fired yet. It's like somethings blocking it.Did I forget to do something? I have the rotor lined up with the #1 on the compression stroke,I see the slot but it's a no go. Second,my old engine was a 69 and I'm using those pulleys since I didn't get any with the 72. After some research here it seems there is difference in 68-70 and 71-72 water pumps as far as short and long snouts? The new 72 engine came with a new water pump but my pulley dose not line up now. So do I switch (if I can ?) water pumps or is there a difference in pulleys from 69 to 72 that I can buy? Thanks.
The oil pump shaft needs to be oriented so the distributor drops all the way in. Usually if you orient the shaft so that the slot faces from front to back of the car, it will drop in. Think it is easier to change water pumps.
