With my going to a 455 in my 71 wagon. I am needing a recommendation on a torque converter? I am going to run the TH350 that was behind my 350. But I will be rebuilt to handle more HP/torque.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the build on my 455. The guy I got it from bought the car with the motor in it. So no information on it. Idles at 8-900. with a lump.

I was thinking on maybe 2300-2500 stall. I know I don't have much to go on but help? LOL

If you want help picking a torque converter, not knowing anything about the engine you are installing is a big problem. All the information you need is unknown. Basically, you need someone to GUESS. I agree, talk to Jim Weise.

What converter were you running with the 350/350 combo?

I’m running the Hughes GM20BPO400 behind a 455 that looks stock and runs 12.90s. I like it, it’s feels stock but flashes to 2k. (I’ve been told the ‘BPO’ means it was built for the torque from the real necktie divisions…)

Take ANY torque converter. Put it behind an engine with more torque, it will stall higher, behind an engine with less torque, it will stall lower. Car weight and gearing also affect stall speeds. More weight and lower numerical gearing, higher stall. Less weight, and higher numerical gearing, lower stall.
