Last year I replaced my shocks in my 350 71 Skylark with Gabriel gas shocks (allegedly best ones) all around.

    They stink!!!!

Any ideas on what I should get that will give me a nice ride. Springs were replaced I probably should have went with some Monroe Matics but got a deal on the Gabriel's and now know why. :Do No:

Are the Edelbrock shocks worth the $$? Just checked out the prices and they are almost double the Monroe's price which I heard were good also. Don't mind spending the $$ but got burnt once already on the Gabriel's.

I put a set of Tokico's on my 71 GS. I liked the ride. Not as harsh as KYB but considerably better than Monroe or similar low end shock.

I used the base KYB gas shocks. Not the KYB gas adjust. They are super smooth and not too expensive. Gave the car a new car ride. They are also gray like stock GM were.

Do the Edelbrock IAS shocks ride hard? I see they are gas pressurized vs. OEM. Looking at them and the KYB's.

you lucky bums. I think the only thing for my 'Cat are Monroe shocks.

I'd love a full set of KYB on this thing. Their performance was great.

Anyway, I was actually pleasently surprised with my Monroe shocks that I put in the rear. I mean, 44 yr old car on original shocks OF COURSE the next pair will be better.. But I found them to do really well in the twisties. but I can't compare to anything else..

    Hey Steve,

for me it was 5760's in the rear. 5759's would go in the front but I ain't done 'em yet.

    Gas Charged Sens-a-trac.

I've got the Sens-a-Tracs on my 70 convertible. work good. I was debating on KYB's along with the sensa's I've never ridden in a KYB equipped car however.

Guess the biggest difference is that the sensa tracs and similar are not pressurized where they are high psi and expand like the KYB's Gas Adjust and Edelbrocks IAS. That's why I was concerned with a ride that might be too stiff.

Get Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks. EXCELLENT!
 I wouldn't buy anything from Tenneco (Walker, Monroe, Dynomax, Thrush, Rancho). The company does NOT honor their warranty, despite MUCH documentation. Tried for several YEARS to get warranty refund. Finally gave up; Only way to get them better is to warn others about poor quality. Lifetime warranty? shocks didn't last 3 years, and was in storage for 13 months of that. Sent them back, copies of receipts, copies of UPS documentation with proof of delivery and signature; still NO GOOD. Have a nice day Tenneco! never see another penny of my money!

Ordered som KYB Gas Adjust shocks today. Just couldn't get myself to spend the $ on the Edelbrocks. I'll do a post when I do the install.

Replaced shocks all around with KYB adjust. In addition after installing new springs about 6 months ago I was looking to get just an inch more in height in the rear without making the car too high or stiff. That said I installed an "Air Lift" 1000 air bag system inside the rear coils as well. What a difference!! No more leaning and swaying and a great stable and responsive ride to boot!! Should have done it it sooner!
