Need help with gapless rings

Hey all, putting Total Seal gapless rings in my BBB.

How do you get the gapless top rings to compress and drop into the bore? Sure isn’t working with my tapered ring seater gizmo. The gap ends of the top ring “set” are set 180 from each other and don’t want to compress into each other. Seems I can manipulate them into place with it all in my hands but it stops going through when tapping down into the bore.

And yes they are gapped correctly!

Plenty of WD40. I have only used them once and dont remember any issues but I do remember when we took the engine apart after a few hundred miles for another issue the rings were lined up eliminating the no gap feature.

Brandon, what kind of spring compressor did you use?

I have that bore specific tapered thing, and wiped break in oil on everything

How big / tall of a chamfer do you have on the top of the each Bore.

Yes the top thin rail of the gapless ring is just like the oil ring rails so if you have not rounded over the leading edge corner they will dig themselves a little groove and when they do they will not rotate and be stuck in one place which could be where the gaps both line up, but in normal conditions that ring does rotate and thus at time will have its gap in line with the main L groove rail!

It was either the one you have or a cheap one. We sprayed WD40 it gets in everything and motor oil on the stuff we could.
