    Hi Guys
A need some help identifying my rear end because of some leakage on the pinion oil seal and i need to replace it

A have 1973 Buick Centurion 455-4 with a posi track rear end but in don't know which one
I have tried to identify it based on the rear cover and i think it is a 10 bolt 8.5 but i am not sure
I have tried the identification numbers and the casting number but nothing comes up on the internet
the identification number on the front of the passenger side tube is VA P095
And the casting number on the housing is 480632
Does anyone can tell me what kind of rear end in have
    Thanks in advance

It should be a 9 3/8" ring gear. There are two 9 3/8 " rear units. The unit before the 71 model year is Buick only and not the same as yours. The 9 3/8" after the 70 model year is BOP. Check with others to confirm this information.

VA = 2.73 RATIO WITH LIMITED SLIP

Around 73 Buick also introduced a 8 7/8" diameter ring gear option. So check with others if that is a possibility. In order for it to be an 8.5", it would need to be a 350 cid engine. If you take off the cover, you can measure the ring gear or get the part numbers to identify the unit.

    It's a 10-bolt cover,which looks similar to an 8.5" cover,but is larger.This rear has a large 12-bolt ring gear.

    ID the rear
That is a 10 bolt cover 12 bolt ring PONTIAC FULL SIZE car rear end
It will have 31 spline bolt in axles
Posi units were Eaton 4 spring units...looking similar to the eaton in a early 12 bolt truck
Ring gear bolts are 7/16 x 20 and are Left hand thread
These rears were used in the mid performance engine B O P and Chevy wagons. So a 350 or 400 engine in a Buick Olds Or Pontiac got this rear.
    era is 1971-1976
Axle spline pitch is 45 degree cut.

9 3/8 rears were used in the 455 cars and BOP wagons 12 bolt cover 12 bolt ring.

They used this form of differential all the way to 1985 in wagons and Deville rwd cars. They nuder-ed it with c-clip axles and only 28 spline the further into the 80's it went... Pinion shaft was only 1.625 also same as a 10 bolt 8.5 too. 77-85 was the rera for that rear...USED THE SAME cover from 1965-1985 later models got a fill level plug in the cover that was about the only difference in the cover.

    Hope that covers it.

OH, No aftermarket support for the rear on posi units BUT AGAIN Fabcraft made 1 gear set 3.55 if you can get them to make that one again too.
I have clutches for your posi unit
    I have bearing kits also
gear sets will range from 2.28 - 3.42 ratio
1965-1970 gear sets range from 2.56 - 4.33 that I know off in GM...Might have had 4.56 4.88 also they r=aced the Catalina 2+2 with this rear.

Looks like VA is a 2.73 POSI REAR.

Your link is for a 12 bolt Chevy truck. Contact Monzaz above for the correct stuff.

Don't be ashamed, we all have a little leakage from our rear ends every once in awhile. Just look in a mirror, you'll recognize once you see it. Oh, wait, are we not talking about the same thing?

    Thanks again

I know our cars mark their territory :beers2:
But it also creates a mess underneath the car and the mufflers

Same as a Pontiac GTO seal from 1966-1972
    2043 Timkin number
Which is the same seal a 10 bolt 8.5 seal is, It is one of GM'S most popular seals ever. You should have NO problem finding the seal at any Auto store.

NOW THE crush sleeve is a total different thing. lol.
Auto stores will not have this parts.
Just PM me we have everything on the shelf. Jim
