Now that I'm running sub-12 second 1/4 times, I need to get a 'cage for my skylark.

Does anyone have suggestions of good kits out there? The car is street/strip, so I would still like to keep the interior intact as much as possible.

Also, do I need to use a 'cage that welds to the frame, or could I use one that welds to plates in the floor?

    The car is a '71 skylark, 464ci, 597HP 568TQ, 200-4r, 12 bolt w/4.10s

    Thanks!

I bought my 8 point roll bar from S&W Racecars in PA. I bought the Pro Street bars for the back so I did't have to go through the rear seat. They are bent following the roof line and go through the speaker shelf. I had a friend install it and he said everything fit well. I did have to remove the armrests for clearence for the side bars but I think if they were slightly bent before you install them they would make it around the armrests.

I can't find my rulebook anywhere but if I remember correctly it must be welded to the frame. You may want to look into having someone bend the tubing to fit the car instead of buying a kit. You would get a tighter fit this way.

    DEFINATELY go to the frame.
Shop around for someone who knows NHRA/IHRA rules, how to TIG weld, and will work w/ you to keep your interior intact.
I have a cage that's good to 7.50 and 95% of the interior is still in my car so stand firm on that preference.

Also, consider the investment.....If you can,use chromoly,it's lighter and will actually add value in the right situation.

Think of your future goals, you might go faster in the future so a full cage would be a better finished product if you start now rather that adding to the minimum required 6-point.

With a 115mph trap speed you definately have power potential to go quicker than 11.95.
