Finally needed to replace the top cylinders (had the car for almost 20 years so they could be the originals). When I was removing the passenger side cylinder, I noticed that it's missing one of the two bolts that connects the top cylinder to the car. These two bolts allow that top cylinder to 'swing' a bit as it's raising/lowering the top. The bolts are rather unique (5/8" head with a few threads at the top of the bolt and the remainder of the bolt is of a smaller dimension and smooth to fit into the top cylinder). Has anyone ever had to replace one of these ? Are they availalble somewhere ? Anyone have an extra one ? Thanks in advance..
I'll get a picture up of it when I get home. There are two of them per cylinder. They essentially 'hold' the cylinder in place and allow it to pivot a few inches as the rod extends to raise/lower the top. Anyone with an extra one (I'm sure most mid 60's a-body convertibles probably share the same setup) ??
Called CARS and they don't have them (or at least the guy on the phone looked and looked and couldn't find them). He said if I could find the part number, he could look that up... Anyone know where I can find the part number for a bolt ?? Thanks !
Thought I saw them on ebay (new) and I might have a spare one as well somewhere but have to get back at you on that as currently on shift. This the one (not sure because of the year of your car but knowing GM...)? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Thanks Tim (for looking for an extra bolt). The one pictured is close but not an exact match. Mine 'steps down' immediate after the threads. I'll try to get a picture of it up when I get back from vacation. -Bob
Like Tim, I have a bolt set I bought on ebay that is for a 68-69 Camaro convertible. Post some pics and I'll see if what I have looks similar.
Give these guys a try. I don't know if they have the bolts you need but they have a lot of convertible stuff so it's a possibility. www.convertibleparts.com
