Mo more than a 410 gear,...reason being any shorter and your going to be in 2nd and 3rd gear too soon and with a small block with no power your not gonna be happy,...

For the engine if your wanting to make enough power to have fun with,....I will have to boost it,...procharger or turbo,...there is plenty of room in that chassis to do a pair of used 44mm's or even some stock GN turbos,...a simple oil pump to push the oil back to the fuel pump block off,..a blow thru carb and your making 600hp for about $4500

But if you like that option,...no more than a 355 gear with the 2004r,...and I would honestly do a th350 with a 323 gear for a turbo setup for longevity,..cruisibilty,..and a better load on the turbos

You would have the fastest 350 buick around and on this board,....if any of you guys are interested in having a legit well sorted 10sec 350 car that you can drive anywhere let me know,...I'm now building cars full-time so I could get you going with something nobody on here has done yet and will put you king of the mountain with ease

If the engine runs good I would not mess with it. Gears will make it faster on the street, and the overdrive will give you better highway RPM. The stock rear end is the 8.5 10 bolt, and you can get parts for them right out of the Jegs or Summit catalogs.

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? Leave the oil pump alone until you actually know your hot oil pressures.

The Grand National turbos fit on the 350? I think I might put that on the list for next summer

I’m taking it to one of my stepdads friends soon and we’re going to do a compression test on it! I’ll get back on the results!

My brother Procharges his 347 Stang that is the way I would want to go. Maybe Mart will let us put a 175 shot of nitrous on his motor it is kinda new. That should get very close to 10 he can spin it high he has 410 gear

    alec296 i need another buick

You would have to make any turbo fit your setup
I’m not a fan of 4.10 gears, even with overdrive. Been there.
3.73 or 3.42 would be fine. Especially with a 2.75 first gear. Which is cheap for 350 transmission. But you have a 400, which will require a new Longer driveshaft For. And you need a cable attached to carb. Which is a project on a stock 71-72 intake.
A nice 3 series rear gear, and a good torque converter 2400-2700 would work . Get decent porting or big valves, and mill heads .050-.060, crower level 3 cam ,a good dual exhaust with X crossover. A performance distributor over the stock with a decent power timeing. Should be fairly impressive. Sure the 4.10 gears may beat it off the line. But I am not sure it will hold that lead against this combo.
