    NEED A SECOND OPINION!!!!!!!!!!

Today I looked at a 69 GS 400 4spd that an old guy has totally dismantled (8yrs ago) and strewn throughout three different buildings. The body is sitting outside with all the glass taken out. The dash is rusted through, and they chopped the frame with a torch to get the rear bumper off. It does have disc brakes and a good title. The seats and the interior are not great (Bench Seat), he has the numbers matching 400 and 4spd, two ram air hoods (perfect condition), three ram air cleaners, two rust free fenders, two rust free doors, rust free trunk lid, GS grille and surround with only two of the small fins broken, rust free radiator support, GS steering wheel, 12 bolt 4:11 posi. Here's the deal:Dou: I saw the body sitting outside of his house and asked him about it. He told me that it was for sale but would not tell me how much he wanted. The guy is not very friendly to say the least. He says that he has all of the parts to the vehicle and some 455 parts to go with. He told me to make him a fair offer. Please give me your opinion. :Do No:

    A Second Opinion

Staged69, I think you need to look at it as you were at a swap meet and think as it as a large lot of parts. You being in the BPG have a good idea of what the parts are worth and trust me so does the guy selling them. Now you need to look at each part and decide if the parts are usable or junk. Don't let the sellers demeaner affect your decision on buying from him. As far as the money part, well that depends on the condition of the parts and I everything is there you can't go wrong for $1000.00 as long as the engine and drive line are desent, of course less is better, AL.

Thanks guys. I wish that he would sell me a few of the parts but he will only sell it all or nothing. He did say he needed the money and the fact that he lives in the corner of an old steel machine shed proves it. I think that he became grumpy because the first time I stopped he was drunk and stated that he wanted 3000.00 for the car and I told him that there was no way. A month later he called me and told me he needed money.

Next time you go to see him, bring along a cheap bottle of wine, lossen him up a little, then cut the deal!
Maybe a wine buzz and some cold cash will close the deal!!!!

Also, if he called and said he needed money....the balls in your court!!!

    Good luck!:Brow: :Brow: :Brow:

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

A complete 4spd set-up is worth $750-1000 alone. I would take some $100 bills about 1200 and keep about $300 separate. Make him an offer of $900 and flash some cash. Bring a buddy who will hold the other $300 and see what will happen. I would make sure you bring a trailer of 2 pickup trucks at the same time since this person seems "flighty"

Believe me the alcohol idea has crossed my mind but I couldn't stand to be around this guy in his "house" for that long. Also I would hate to be there when his house get raided because he looks to be on the "powder". I was planning on trying to get the goods for around a grand.
