What should my timing be at for my 462? the build up is : 10 to 1 hypereutectic pistons Forged rods Poston 116 cam Balanced Line honed Deck plated Ported heads Stage one springs Stage one fuel pump New poston carb headers 2.5 inch exhaust i dont know the amount of porting that was done to the heads.. or any of the other measurements if it matters... Thanks, -Josh
I have a similar combo in my 68 GS convertible and it likes 36 total advance I don't use the vacuum advance it is all mechanical and all in by 2000 RPM it is a converted points distributor with a Stinger set-up and MSD 6AL box. Are you taking your convertible to BG I am still debating.
Your getting me pumped, I'm worried about all the hail and tornados all over lately. But I sure would like to see that 11 sec timeslip.:Brow:
Do you remember the hail storm that hit a week before the nats a couple of years ago? Every car in that city was dimpled up like a golf ball. With that being said, the weather looks pretty good this year. About a 20% chance of a shower on Sat.:TU:
Thats what i forgot! i forgot to tell you my igntion! its got an accel supercoil with no box or anything... the engine is just how it was when we bought it except now its cleaner and its got a new carb on it.... the guy we bought it from didnt know really any of the specs as he had bought the car from oklahoma for his wife so what kind of power might i be making todd?
HP ???? That is going to depend on several variables, actual compression, how good do the heads flow, what intake, how big is the carb. Are you going to BG ?
Initial advance on my similar engine is currently 13*- just like the data card that cam with the HEI distributor suggested. Buick recommended what, 8*? With my old wobbly HEI distributor, I had to dial in almost 17* initial (that's my best guess- way off the timing tab) What cfm is the carb?
Only trail and error will tell what your engine likes best. 34* total is pretty common, try to get 14-15* initial with your advance coming in by 2000 or 2500RPM. The big initial advance you can feel in the seat of you pants. When your starter bogs, you've got too much initial. Good Luck Fred Dodd
That's true, Fred. I should have metioned I verified the initial timing being correct with a test tune and a vacuum gauge- I get 19"Hg at 13* initial at idle, and 18" Hg at 15-14* initial- even thought the engine sounds a little bit better at 15*.
Chris, to answer your carb question... ive got no clue what it flows...i think my dad said somehting about the poston guy wouldnt tell him what he did with it... i guess he says it flows around 900cfm but honestly ive got no clue -Josh
