sure do!!here it goes.me and my buddies are in my 66 wildcat gs (5 people were in my car) cruisin along then i come up to a red light and then this guy and his buddy in this little black honda del sol pull up next to me and he started revvin it up.he thought it would be and easy kill for him because my car was totally stock including the exhaust and my car looked like that old impala from cheech and chong painted all red primer.anyway the light turns green and we both take off and he starts looking over at me while hes shifting and mustve been thinking why didnt i beat this guy yet.so we raced through a couple of lights and finally he got tired of being embarrassed in front of his friend and made a right turn literally with his head down while his friend was laughing like crazy.it was the first race for my wildcat and wont be the last.

    take that ricers :moonu:

anyone else got a kill story with their nailhead ride?

    Hmmmm....

I ran a 00 something F-150 sport from a stop light. He followed me until I had to turn right. Otherwise, I challenged an 01 T/A at a convenience store, thinking it was some highschool kid in a stock car. Turned out to be a runner in the Hot Rod Power Tour. He had it down in the 9s. At about 90 I let out of it, because I knew my car wasn't going to like the subtle changes in the pitch of the road. Dude lost his grip on the start and almost spun out. Came around me doing 150 at least. Corey was there that night, in my old 65 Riviera. He went on to buy a 64 from a guy in his home town. Anyhow, I more or less hot rod my car for reasons of my own amusement. I don't feel as though I have to prove anything.

    65 gs vs 69 440 Charger (1971)

I can give you a nailhead story, but its 33 years old. Let me set the scenario, Its 1971 and the end of my senior year. My car of choice was a 1965 , no post Skylark GS, stock 401 with a two speed super turbine and a peg leg. The GS is sitting on 4 brand new General wide oval F70 14's tires, black painted stock rims with the whitewalls out. I have the aircleaner cover turned upside down for some extra air . At the time I liked the way it sounded when you opened up the carter. The car had a decent midnignt brown lacquer paint job hiding the original sea piss green. I have to add there is no tach.
Were cruising onto the Outerbridge Crossing(length 1 straight mile) which connects Staten Island ,New York with Perth Amboy New Jersey. When returning from a mild night of .20 cent beers :beer at Tarrys Tavern on the "Island" as we called it. The drinking age in New York was 18 while New Jersey was 21. It didn't matter that we were only 17 , but what the hell it was close like in horseshoes. My co-pilot and still living witness was Dave, later known in the late 70's as "Disco Dave", but thats another story. I have all the windows open on the GS and Iron Butterfly blasting out of my under the dash cheopo 8 track. As we enter the Bridgeway a 1969 Dodge Charger RT, royal blue/white vinyl top and white interior to match pulls up. Its was a 440 Magnum four speed, 4:11 rear, sitting on Goodyear wide ovals white letters out and factory Mags. I knew this car and driver and he was making short work of a couple of GTO's and SS's from school and town.
Then he pulls up next, he starts taunting me by revving and chirping his tires, popping his clutch and that nonsense. His two buds in the car are laughing like I don't stand a chance. Now, I know from a dead stop I won't fair well with my peg leg and weak gears, plus I'll smoke the tires a city block before I can lock up. We eyeball each other\and I let him have it from a 20mph roll. The GS just starts pulling, the torque is just pushing the nose up on my car and I have him by a car length. I can hear him bang two gears :3gears: I make my only shift into High at about 65-70 mph(my tach). He goes for 4th and I still have him by at least a car length. Were doing about a buck and we both have to let off because were running out of Bridge. Dave is laughing like the idiot that he is, or we both are. He's yelling" you got dusted by a Buick" The Dodge boys are pissed :af: , they're yelling back," lets go again". I just laugh and turn off yelling back "next week".
:Smarty: Back at school on Monday Dave won't let him live it down. Dave actually knows squat about cars ,but reminds him about how the " Plain Jane Buick" crushed his RT striped Dodge 440 out. To save face the Dodge boys challenge me in the halls to another race. I just shrugged my shoulders and say "why I already beat you once"

It's amazing how quick the nailheads were. It's amazing how many people don't realize how quick the old Riv's and Skylarks were.

    Definately a great engine! :TU:

    54 Buick Special

JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN 1960: while looking to trade my 50 Ford for a 55 Ford or Chevy, I found the prices too high. My Dad told me of a 54 Buick 2 dr hardtop stick shift I should buy for only $700. I traded for it but my friends teased me for driving a Buick. At the dirt tracks, many old original 1930's coupes were powered by stock 55 & 56 Buick engines and ran great. MALDEN, MISSOURI 1963: I replaced the 264 with a 56 322 Century engine. It had the power to rip out the stock clutch then the transmition. After upgrading with a 56 box and racing clutch/pressure plate by 1964, I started kickin ass. 55 Fords and chevy's were easy to beat. 63 and 64 cars were good races. I beat every 64 Ford 390 I ever raced. Overall, I averaged 90% wins and never refused a race. The fastest cars were 421 pontacs, 413 mopars, 409 Chevy's which I stayed close to, but the 4speed gears and posi rears were hard to beat. The guys in the 50's cars were Blown away physically and mentally, and in our area, I was the guy to beat (since most big block cars were comming out of St. Louis 150 miles away). One local son of a police chief just bought a 1963 Ford Galaxy 390 Police interceptor 4speed, Posi. To my surprise, I beat him by 3 cars and we ran full throttle 2 miles to town. The Big Ford was still 3-4 cars behind. At the Daisey Queen He stood quietly looking under my hood at that narrow innocent PLAIN untouched junkyard $85 engine and said "How in the Hell does this thing run like that". I didn't have an answer. In October 1964 a "friend" totaled the Buick. It broke my heart. But there were more Buicks to come into my life. P.S. THIS 56 CENTURY ENGINE WAS RATED AT 255 HP. I shifted at 5500 but it could turn 6200 rpm in ALL THREE GEARS until the lifters floated, and was 100% BONE STOCK!

    401 vs 383

Car #1 - 1966 Buick Wildcat Custom Convertible, 401 Auto, 100,000 miles on the car, still original.

Car #2 - 1968 Plymouth Fury III Convertible, I had just rebuilt the 383 and converted it to a 4bbl, with aftermarket intake, and a mild cam.

Story - I owned the Buick and my brother had the Plymouth. We were both curious about which car was faster, we had raced before I rebuilt the 383 in his Fury and the Buick beat it easily, but the 383 was very much more tired than the 401 in my Buick so we figured it was wear and tear that made the Fury slower. Well....

We lined it up at a light on Powers Blvd in Colorado Springs CO one night, the Fury's engine had about 1200 miles on it so it was broke in proper already. The light turned green and the race was on. Buick vs Mopar, classic battle. right off the line the Buick jumped a fender ahead of the Mopar and never looked back. As I hit 60 mph I looked over and the front of the hood on the Fury was behind my seat.... Old worn out Buick beats fresh Mopar... :3gears: :spank: :Do No:

I recently smoked the doors off of one of those full size Lexus sedans in my dual quad 65 Riv. Was on my way to work one evening taking the interstate. I was in the fast lane because I like to let my Riv stretch-out on the interstate when out of nowhere this guy in a big lexus is all over my rear bumber while I'm doing about 85mph. I speed up...he speeds up. This lasts for about 20 seconds or until I got tired of it. I can't remember what came first. My Riv is deadly when it is warmed up and already doing interstate speeds. He obviously had no clue. I laid the pedal down,..listened for the secondaries and watched his headlights get small in my rear view mirror. It was no contest. I saw exhaust swirling in a vaccum in front of his car as I was pulling away. I laid off at about 115mph...felt pretty dangerous(like I was floating). As I slowed down to take my exit he caught up with me and just kept nodding his head in approval. I win.

When I was in my senior year of high school, (private school, no auto shop)1977, this dude had a '73 road runner........360, 4 barrel, a real pig. He thought he had the fastest car in the world, after all he put a cam in it and ported the heads  He used to say "Don Prudhomme speaks for himself"

I had my '66 Riv, single Quadrajet, stock but freshly rebuilt........

Well, after hearing his BS all year about how fast Mopars are, I had enough by the the last day of school. My friend said to me, "c'mon Joe, you got a big Buick.......you'll blow his arse off"......So we lined up at the corner, and I never thought I'd beat him so badly.............I actually pulled over to the curb and waited for him to catch up 2 blocks down the road. My only regret was that I didn't shut him up sooner so I could gloat a little. I could have lost my license for going so fast down a residential street, but hey....I was just a kid 'ya know?

    Nailhead

In 71 I had a 401 cu.in. 1964 lark that I had built up to about 400 hp. I raced one fella in a 68 road runner and beat him. He told me that he had a car at home that I would not beat. So me and my buddy waited patiently while he went and got it. When he arrived back at the drive in. He was in a 427 cu.in. camero that sounded raunchy. We went out to a long straight strech out of town and my friend got out and flagged us off. As I crossed the qtr. line I looked up and could see the whole car in the rear view mirror. We ran 3 times and the result was the same. He finally left , Talking to himself....... :Brow:
