I just saw a post from member Chuck Bridges.. He was told the fuel pump lobe on his cam was worn and he needs a new cam. Am I wrong or aren't the fuel pump cams on nailheads bolted on?
Chuck is planning on towing his Wildcat for a 8 hour ride to rebuild the motor and put a new cam in. Biggest issue I believe is for the "worn cam fuel lobe"..
Nice link. best I can do is to tell him to look at this Nailhead section.. Chuck posted on the members section if your curious and wan't to help him.
Yes. What's the story with the fuel pumps? All they have on Rockauto is electric conversions. Can the originals be rebuilt?
They don't carry the '66 pumps, but the '65 & older fit & serve the purpose. Originals can be rebuilt IF they are the rebuildable type with the screws holding them together. Tom T.
If the shop that told him that is the same place he is taking it for the "rebuild", he needs and intervention...
He can't afford the $8000 that the shop told him for the rebuild so I think the 8 hour trip is to a friends house who will do the work I think? Hope he thinks twice but he is a self proclaimed to have severe anxiety disorder. Not many friends near him that know alot about cars..
All engines have specifics that are unique to their proper build, plus the 50-70 years of accumulated knowledge that has revealed some other things that are to be done different than the original documentation and procedures. Since one cannot sashay up to the GM parts counter and walk out with a complete replacement engine for $237.42 anymore, being well informed and making a good decision is paramount. I would hope your friend would save himself from greater anxiety of a bad experience and contact someone who can help guide him on the journey. What is the reason to suspect the "fuel pump cam lobe"? Lack of fuel, noise? Where is he located?
