Well I guess im a glutton for punishment. Another one followed me home. Its a 55 Century 4 door hard top. 322 Factory A/C power steering and power brakes.
It was just looking for a little love and TLC! (Re: My New Toy) Hi Dan and V-8 Buick members, You don't need another car, you need therapy! Well in that case, I suppose you can't refuse! Besides, it was just following you in search of a little love and tender loving care! Doesn't look in bad shape for being 56 years young! Hope the mechanics and interior are in comparable shape to the exterior! Good luck with this project, should be a fun restoration! :TU: Cheers, Edouard :beer
Nice car!:TU: :eek2: A/C, very nice!! What's the deal with the divided back light (window)? I've not seen that on a '55 before.
Century, model 63 The 4 door hardtops were a spring offering for '55. Only offered in the Special and Century series. A/C is a very desirable options for '55s. My Roadmaster does not have A/C (Some '57 had divided rear light. But, As I said I've not seen divided rear light on a '55,. I think its something to look in to. ) This from Team Buick; http://www.buicks.net/years/55.shtml 1955 Buick Production Figures SPECIAL SERIES Model 41-Four-Door Tourback Sedan.............................84,182 Model 43-Four-Door Riviera....................................66,409 Model 46C-Convertible Coupe...................................10,009 Model 46R-Two-Door Riviera...................................155,818 Model 48-Two-Door Tourback Sedan..............................61,879 Model 49-Estate Wagon..........................................2,952 Model 410-Stripped Chassis.........................................1 Model 411-Stripped Chassis.......................................696 SUPER SERIES Model 52-Four-Door Sedan......................................43,280 Model 56C-Convertible Coupe....................................3,527 Model 56R-Two-Door Riviera....................................85,656 Model 520-Stripped Chassis.........................................1 Model 521-Stripped Chassis.......................................744 CENTURY SERIES Model 61-Four-Door Tourback Sedan.............................13,269 Model 63-Four-Door Riviera....................................55,088 Model 66C-Convertible Coupe....................................5,588 Model 66R-Two-Door Riviera....................................80,388 Model 68-Two-Door Tourback Sedan.................................270 Model 69-Estate Wagon..........................................4,243 ROADMASTER SERIES Model 72-Four Door Sedan.......................................31,717 Model 76C-Convertible Coupe.....................................4,739 Model 76R-Two Door Riviera.....................................28,071 Model 720-Stripped Chassis..........................................1 Model 721-Stripped Chassis........................................336 Total Production...............................738,814
James Thanks for all the info. I ll have to look into the divided rear glass. I couldn't pass this thing up for $1700 bucks seeing as its 98% there. I figured hell if the thing turns to be a bust i could part it for more. Gary this is my current plan take out the 322 and replace it with a 401 and a th400. convert to an open drive line. try to make the thing look mostly original. 2 tone with pin striping. i know its a lot of work but i had to save it from getting a 350 Chevy shoved under the hood ou:
I can remember back in the day, my father had a '58 Century and a friend of his had a '55. Both had original motors, this was late 1959 or early 1960. I can remember dad trying to shake him one time on a long straight stretch, but the 322 powered '55 was stuck like glue to the 364 powered '58 and in fact he later claimed he was on the brake to keep from running into the back of us. I'm sure this was a tall tale, but it made for a great early childhood memory. I was 8 or 9 at the time. On that note, I say stick with the 322 and really keep it original! JMHO
I was thinking about keeping the original but i have a 425 qjet motor and a th 400. its gonna kinda be a resto mod but done as if it was done in the mid 60's. and im throwing on a set of rally wheels as well
Would you mind if I posted the pictures of your car over at the AACA Buick forum? That divided rear light has piqued my curiosity.
James Feel free the more people that see it the better. I'm trying to get all the input I can. I don't have the car here right now its at my in laws so i cant give Vin numbers easily but ill have it home later in the week ill take more pictures. Is this window thing something rare period or just rare on a century
I've had mine for 41 years. During that time I've seen a lot of '55 Buicks. I've never seen that on a '55 Century, or any other '55 or '56 Buick. I'll copy your pictures and post them on AACA , also a link to this thread. We'll see what the BCA guys have to say Thanks,
Dan, I posted the pictures over there. Here's a link back to that thread; http://forums.aaca.org/f162/55-century-divided-rear-glass-311659.html#post932523
Welcome to the 55 club; as stated before my 55 century has solid rear window. I did notice that mine has a chrone trim around gas filler door and your's does not. Maybe it was an option. Best of Luck!
Upon further inspection its something someone added to make it look like a 57. its a one piece window. I do need pictures of what the proper door panels looked like and i need a couple of complete dash shots i have a couple of holes and am wondering what was there at one time.
