I notice it has the 3687 Cowl tag like every other 68/69 442 based Lansing built car I've seen. Got info from a 70 W30 today that shows that at least in 1970, they matched the VIN and Fisher Cowl tag model numbers on the 442 cars built in Lansing.

That car has to be upwards of $60-$80k in that condition.

I wouldn't dare drive that car on the street, but would run it at Pure Stock. :)

    68 H/O worth

    Dave,
I talked to the restorer earlier in the year. He is just north of me here in Oklahoma. He had a 68 he was taking to auction in Tulsa, OK. I don't know if this is the same car but I think it is. It looks gorgeous and whatever Harry paid it was well worth it. I know what it would have cost me if I had the cash at the time but I'll keep that to myself.

Hey, I lived in Walnut Creek in 1968!!! Maybe seeing this car on the street was the start of my obsession with Oldsmobiles. I was too young to remember.

Beautiful car. I can't wait for musclecar prices to plummet so I can buy me one of these. Prefer no A/C, though.

MY Friend has one 4 sale

A friend of mine is a few weeks away from finishing up his total every nut and bolt body off retesiery restoration on his 68 Hurst/Olds clone car.The car is near perfect and looks like the real thing except car is a 4speed and has a Edelbrock intake.Features 30 over 455,M20 4 speed, 3.23 posi rear all totally rebuilt and detailed with 0 miles.Car is running but hasn't been driven yet so no miles yet.He is installing glass and interior next and will be for sale when finished in 3 or 4 weeks. He is asking $32,000 and you would not be disappointed.I can say that very few people restore a car to the level that he does and no one will for the money he gets.He is retired and just enjoys doing the car I guess. The 67 chevelle he finished before this car sold as soon as he finished it and probably ended up at a BJ auction making the buyer a lot of money. This car is brand new and is detailed better than one would have been off the showroom floor in 1968.Labor costs to restore the car would cost you more than this at a restoration shop.If anyone is interested I will get you contact info. :3gears:

"Performance tests from Car Craft reported,
" of a four car test, Quarter mile times ranged from 12.97 at 108mph to 13.33 at 104mph"

Where is this data and why isn't this car with these times on that "fastest musclecars" list? It's slowest time is still faster than the 70 GS Stage 1.

Sorry, but I just can't believe 12.97 straight out of the door. Sumthin was seriously tweaked beyond even the Hurst treatment.

But, of course, I could be wrong. :Smarty:

    12.97 @ 108

The 12.97 at 108 was the best time posted by the Hurst/Olds in that 68' issue of Car Craft. The 13.33 time was from an 442-post-W30 auto car.
(The 442 had a problem with the modulater on the T400 and would only shift by lifting off of the throttle.)
The Hurst DID have headers and 14" cheater slicks on it. I do feel, with proper tuning, a pure-stock 68' H/O can reach this - especially if Detweiler's 70 W30 Auto has gone faster! Nevertheless, the car was modified and hence doesn't belong in the top 50 listing.
Back to the article, there was also a black F85 Ram-Rod (W31) campaigned by Jack Marks (Casey's uncle) out of Victor-George Olds in Flint, MI and was 1 of 38? built. That car ran low 13s. I actually tried to find this car (I wrote the dealership - of course got nothing back) but Casey did some research and the car was sold used and some kid wrapped it around a tree.
The Hurst was one of the first and, according to the license plate, appeared in a bunch of articles back then.

Just spoke to Harry over the weekend, I dunno why but he just put the car on E-bay "just to what happens"...................tons of dealers called him, finally a collector in I think Lousianna made him an offer he couldn't refuse, let's just say it was WELL OVER the price Harry paid for the car

That's what the auction says.............someone called Harry on the phone............made an offer if he'd cancel the autcion early, so he did, new owner already paid for the car and just waiting for the shipper to pick her up and take her to its new home
