I was having trouble with the PM's so I decided to put this out as a new thread. About 3 weeks agao I was out racing to get my competition license, car had been running great! Motor pass were quicker, 10.20's, and to get the license, you last 2 pass have to be as fast as the license you are going for, I need to get the license because once you go quicker than 9.99 tracks will only let you make 1, 9 second pass, and then you're done, my car had been running 9.50's. Anyways, the track I was at was at like 2600feet, and time slips for the license are altitude corrected, so the first day I ran 5 out of the 6 required passes, as mentioned pass 5 had to be quicker than a 9.99, I had the nitrous jetted to 200, flowing fuel press. was 8 psi, car launched hard, pulled towards the left wall, I got out of it, straightened it out, and stabbed it again, wasn't sure if it would be quick enough, but got the time slip and it was, 9.89 @ 144,1.31 60 ft. came back the following day to do the last full pass, I let alittle air out of the airbag, car launched hard, nice and straight, all good, got the time slip, 9.31 @ 146, also a 1.31 60 foot, AWESOME!! People's jaws just dropped when I launched the car, and couldn't believe that a Buick ran that good!! I was set to go home, but I let my friend talk me into one more pass to "back up the 9.31..." it didn't take much, well still the 200 shot, pulled up ,staged the car, left alittle early on the pro tree, car left hard, and just after I shifted to 3rd gear it nosed over, I crossed the line and glanced at the volt meter, it read 10v, OK it spit the alternator belt off, I countinue to the time slip booth and glance at the oil press. gage, it's reading "0", shut it off and pushed it off to the side, I stuffed the time slip in my pocket without even a look, I opened the hood to see that when the alt. belt came off, it jambed into the oil pump drive and popped the belt of my external oil pump off. Oh yeah, the time slip said I went an 8.87 @ 140...People really liked the car after that was announced, even coming back to the pits on the trailer. Total "worse case senerio......." So the motor ran for approx. 1 min. with no oil pressure.......I had to pull it apart just to see if everything was OK, first found #2.3 &6 rod bearings worn bad, then the #2 main worn bad, pretty bad, but not spun. I took the crank to the shop, had it maged, they found all the rod journals to be cracked in the radious', almost all the way around. Detonation may have been the cause, the pistons don't show it though, #8 spark plug melted the ground strap off, but figure motor went lean when the voltage dropped. I sent the aluminum rods to GRP, they were slightly (like .001) out of round, they reconditioned them for $50, but now I have to figure out what to do next. I have a line on a Moldex crank to replace what I had, 3.955 stroke, but would have to wait at least 14 weeks, TA has the 4.400 on the shelf to make a 523, but would need to order stroker pistons, either way I'm figuring it will cost between $3500 - $5000, I either wait 3 weeks and build the 523, or at least 14 weeks to have a stronger 470............I do have an 8 second time slip, I know it's wrong, it's missing afew of the incremental times, but if anyone asks,I have one........

    470!!!

Like I said before, 470. No extra stroke. You will make plenty of power off the nitrous that you will not need the extra stress on the block from a stroker crank. I will say the stroker ON Nitrous will be slower. Plus block life will be shorter. Its not worth the extra money just to go slower......
8.87...... Sure, why not. I thin kits doable. :Brow: But I'm guessing that it took your time from green instead of where you left on red. Still 9.31 at 146 is smokin' for 3500 lb porky with a flat tappet.

I never lost an alternator belt but with going to a Peterson setup, I have one more reason to just stuff an extra battery in the trunk with what happened to you. What size pulley do you have on the crank? I've only heard people loose belts with the large stock size 455 crank pulley due to belt speed. Pontiacs are terrible for it. Underdrive pullys are usually good for holding there belts. A large alternator pulley with a small crank pulley, makes it almost a sure thing to never loose a belt.
