You need to re-prioritize- if you do any searching you will find that buicks have several weak spots- one is the timing sprocket on the cam- it has plastic that gets brittle with time- you need to change that timing set before you do anything else- you are not going to be able to resist seeing what kind of power this thing has, and you WILL hand grenade the sprocket and get into a world of hurt when you're hard into it. Comments, everyone??

Who says the engine still has the original timing chain and sprockets ?

According to Jerrid, the car has 250.000 miles on the clock.
If this is still the original engine, chances are good that someone already replaced the original timing gear :TU:

Would you take the gamble on your car?

Sure, the worst thing that could happen is that the chain will jump a few teeth, and you will notice that in the performance of the car.

Don't scare someone with zero experience by telling him what happened to your engine, it's not really that common to have your engine "grenaded" by a bad timing gear sprocket.

And if Jerrid is really worried now:
He can check the slack on the timing chain by using a good adjustable timing light :TU: !

Check the front end suspension, steering and the bearings in the drive line. After 250,000 miles if they have not been rebuilt, the chances are they are long overdue.

Also check the health of the brake syystem. Just like with people old lines and hoses deteriorate and give out over time.

Well, lol ill prob go and check everything you guys have mentioned so maybe i will change my plans and put performance 1st, at least safe and healthy.

i was thinking about taking the car to an Advanced Auto near by and have them do a few tests on it while i pick up a few things

honestly those chain names will rip you off.

Im not just saying that Because by dad owns a Honest garage buisness its because its true.

We got a Neon that went in for a inspection (it was my cousins car) 2 months ago at Advanced auto. Not only did they say she needed brakes and ball joints they also decided to put tie rods on it. THEY PUT THEM IN UPSIDE DOWN!! The car came back to us for a transmission leak

I can say that there are about 15 garages (chains and family owned) in a 15 mile area around us and only 2 garages to honest work.

another story is about my dads competition.

Well he tows in my dads cousins car (not knowing who she is) and tells her that this garage is unprofessional and has no idea what they are doing, come down to my shop and we will treat you right.

its hard to find honest work today.

Nice car but 250,000 for 4000$ is little too much you should have gridded him down the price, I got mine 95 Riv for 5000$ with 52,000 miles.

I think for that price, you got a pretty good deal. The car looks good in the pictures anyway. I'd personally rather have the '69 than a late model anyday. Good find and I hope you enjoy it.
