    Thanks for the responses guys.

Please give an update when you get back into it. I think on a Buick rear end, you may be looking at a minimum of a 1/4" width added to each side of the rear end. And that would also mean that the splines are backed out of the carrier by that much as well - do they still fully mesh?

    @ Mark:
The rear end in my pics is out of a '64 Skylark, so it has bolt in axles. I also have a '65 GS rear end, but that is just a big bearing bolt in type as well.

When mocking up the '96 stuff, I was planning to do what Richie said and cut the center out of the drum backing plates and use gaskets on both sides as originally installed so that the total thinkness does not change. With the bracket on the outside of the axle retainer, I was worried about the pad dragging that you mentioned. Richie is considering milling a 1/4" off the caliper bracket to center the caliper, but that is already the thinnest part of the bracket so I don't know how that will work. The good thing in this setup is that the rear end width does not change.

Looking at the '98+ stuff, I am concerned that the thickness of the caliper bracket/backing plate makes using it on a bolt in Buick rear "iffy" unless something is done to hold the bearing in place. Have you done this conversion on bolt in axle (BOP) rear ends?

    Thanks again,
