Well..........its really not a shifter rebuilt kit. Its new bushings and washers. Hurst will not sell a true rebuild kit. They'll just charge you a fortune for a rebuild (which is soooooooo simple) or make you buy a new one. If your original bushings are bad (likely), this will offer improvement. If the internals of the shifter are worn, like the shims, arms, and button, you'll still be dealing with troubles.

Your HURST needing a rebuild is probably BETTER then a
    NEW Muncie shifter! Pete

It has some but all of what you need for the linkage. It is missing the grooved gromets. Send the shifter and the handle to Dennis at DMLLC@charter.net. 606 237- 6648 He will rebuild the shifter and replate the handle and give you the correct gromets. No need to remove the handle. He will do all of that.

    Thanks for the info Jim.

When I get to that project I'll be sure to send things off to Dennis for an overhaul. It will be nice to have a super smooth shifting setup along with a new clutch. Things are fine now but when I do something like change the clutch I like to address all peripheral items as well since it's part of the overall project.

    Thanks again!

I believe you can have hurst rebuild your old hurst shifter
I had one done 5 years ago for a 69 f-bird and they even added positive stops for around $50 bucks

seen a few new muncie style shifter on a few chevy sites although pricey

    good luck with the decision

Well yes and no. Hurst as we know it does not exist. It was purchased by Mr Gasket a long time ago. The last guy that worked for Hurst and later Mr Gasket did one of ours when the rebuild place was still out west. I think that unit has moved to somewhere in Ohio and the last Hurst survivor is now retired. I cannot say much for their plating at Mr Gasket. I think I like the work of the guy I referred him to better. Also the price now for Mr Gasket is $90.00 plus $9.50 S&H.

Dennis does good work, I have a shifter rebuilt by him as well as one done by Pete Serio- the Hurst guru- he even wrote a book - check out his website, cool pics of old Hurst stuff.

I talked to Dave Kleiner last week, he is still working on the shifter handles:Brow:
