MSD programmable ignition control do or don't

    Hello from the Netherlands,

Im thinking to buy a MSD programmable ignition control 6AL-2 6530. You can recurve your advance with a program on you own laptop
Im now running a crap MR-Gasket advanced recurve kit with the 3 pair of springs thats only advanced 10*.

So I can make a choice between another recurvekit from MSD (8428) or the ignition box 6530. All running with a stock Hei distributer.

Is the extra money well spend? There is not much experience with this control box here in the Netherlands.

So any input is most welcome.
    Thanks!

I just put one in and love it. For me it is really necessary for my supercharged big block. There are a few limits. The box works on pulling timing. So in order to make this work you lock out the distributor, set your max advance and then use the functions available to pull timing. You can only pull 25 degrees and that could be a problem with a mild motor.

I run two retard systems. First is run retard. This is based on rpm. Step one is to set the distributor. My first curve is based on 38 degrees total advance. To the car I pull 14 degrees at 200 rpms to give me 24 degrees timing at engine start. I think I may pull 2 more on next curve for starting as I get a little kick back at startup with this. Next main point is to have timing "all in" at 1800 rpm so I have max timing at cruise. Now this is too much timing for full throttle runs. Since most big block Buicks run best near 32 degrees you can start pulling timing. So for my motor I start pulling timing at 2400 and set -6 degrees at 3000 rpm. Then set it at -8 at 6000 rpm. To do this all you do is right click on the graph and set the point. You can set and save mutliple curves to try different combinations. Here is a curve that I am thinking about for running 44 degrees total timing. 44 degree ignition curve.jpg
