I've decided to go back to a hidden GM HEI module for a "pure stock" look under the hood, plus I'm raising funds for a fuel-related project. :Brow: I just pulled the MSD box and Tach Adapter out of my LeSabre, they work just fine. The Rev Control is "new in box", has been on my shelf for a couple of years. Located in Texas, 79508. SOLD MSD 6A Ignition Box, p/n 6200 (used) - this is an older box that has the 4-wire connector to plug directly into an MSD Soft Touch Rev Control or Engine Control (like the newer 6T-series boxes). $170 +s/h new from Summit, buy this one for $70 shipped to lower 48 states. SOLD MSD Tach Adapter, p/n 8920 (used) - I used this to run my Sun Mini-Tach. "If you are using the magnetic pick-up input (green and violet wires) to trigger your MSD Ignition, you will need the PN 8920 Tach Adapter. The PN 8920 will correct the operation of most voltage-triggered tachometers that do not work directly off the tach output terminal of the MSD Control. This Adapter should also be used on current-triggered tachs (hooked in series with the ignition switch)." (from MSD's website). $58 +s/h new from Summit, buy this one for $30 shipped to lower 48 states. MSD Soft Touch Rev Control MSD 6T, p/n 8738 (new in box) - Has 3000, 6000, 7000, and 8000 rpm pills. Everything in the box just as I got it from Summit. from the MSD website: "The Soft Touch is a very smooth rev limiting action that holds the engine at the selected rpm limit without backfires, extreme roughness or engine damage." NOTE: This was the one MSD told me (2+ years ago) would work with the above ignition box. The current series 6200 ignition boxes don't have the 4-wire connector, and all of the MSD literature I can find only refers to this Rev Control hooking up to the newer 6T boxes (which are the only ones with the 4-wire connector). MSD's website says; "The MSD 6T, 6TN and 6ALN were designed with severe duty racing applications in mind. These ignitions share the same output and circuits of the other 6A Series, but have a few special features of their own. The 6T and 6TN are equipped with a special 4-wire connector to plug into an external rev limiter, This rev limiter is designed exclusively for the MSD 6T, 6TN and 6-HVC Ignition Controls. It has a special 4-wire connector that plugs into the MSD Ignition." Bottom line = As far as I know this Rev Control will work with the above ignition box - but I never actually hooked it up. $85 +s/h new from Summit, buy this one for $50 shipped to lower 48 states.
I might be interested in the tach adapter. I need to check the one in the garage to make sure its not the same as this one. The one I bought is not the one I need. Thanks
James, I'll take the MSD 6A for $70.:TU: I may want the rev control, but I need to research a bit. Is a module avail for 5500 rpm? I'll get you an answer on the rev control by noon Tuesday. Thanks!
Great! Shoot me a PM with your address. The rpm modules (pills?) are available in 200 rpm increments, so there's a 5400 and a 5600 rpm pill, but I don't know about a 5500rpm one. o No: Just let me know on the rev control. :TU:
James, PM on the way... I'll just take the MSD 6A. The 8738 Rev control can be used with a MSD 6A, but the 6A needs to be modified by MSD. Cost is $35, plus shipping both ways it's closer to $55 for the conversion. There's a forum on the MSD site with lots of great info.:TU:
James, how do you hook up the tach adapter as I am using a mag pick up and a Mallory box. I will be using the Buick in console tach.
Ed, the MSD site has the instructions online. Go here for the instructions, and enter the model number '8920': http://www.msdignition.com/instructiondownload.aspx There is also a forum on the site that should be able to answer any other questions.
http://www.msdignition.com/instructions/Products/Accessories/8920.pdf?terms=8920 It's pretty simple, there is a hot and a ground, then an input from the MSD box and an output to the tach. You might double-check to make sure this will drive a factory tach... o No: I think so, but would hate to sell you something that won't work.
Sorry about the late commo, been busy plugging leaks in the Camp's pool. MSD box is sold (will edit the OP), and has been shipped to wkillgs.
James I have a Mallory adapter but I think I bought the wrong one a year ago. If it is incorrect I will buy yours. I will be the Mallory part number and maybe you can confirm it for me.
