I know somebody on the board has done this:

Redrill, the cross member and move the engine mounts back a couple inches, then do the same to the tranny, and order a new driveshaft.

What is all involved, and how did you go about alinging the block correctly?

Seems like it would work wonders for traction, and if my calculations are correct, at 3" the chassis would have to use 138 Lb. Ft. less to lift the front end off the ground, and it would be like shifting 89 lbs towards the center of the car, and only about 49.6% of the weight would be on the front wheels compared to around 53.7%.

Am I right in my thinking, maybe somebody who really knows can set me strait:Smarty:

Just thinking, got a whole year before next season starts.

The "Scrap iron Screamer" did this some years ago, and that car launched VERY WELL. Unless you were very familiar with Buicks, you did not even realize it was done.

I only got mine back an inch due to the headers but you might get another inch if your headers fit differently.
Stay in line with the original holes and everything should stay centered.
If you still have a stock driveshaft and are stepping up in the power, a new driveshaft wouldn't be a bad idea anyways.

the old "scrap iron screamer" is now owned by Doug Paine, son of Gary Paine who owns the race car Great Scat, 2001 super 16 winner, I don't know if Doug is online, but Gary watches this site from time to time and may be able to shed some light on this for you. I think the eng. was moved 3 to 4 inches back and the fire wall was modified to accept this, it was a subtle change and you had to look twice too notice. I believe the orig owner(mike modena) works for t/a performance know, and is working on a new car, so watch for Mike to come back strong!
