    I bought a new mount to install; however, I do not have the bolts and "spacers" to install the tranny. The bolts are not a problem, I can get them from my local hardware supplier, but I don't have the size of the bolt (length), nor do I have the spacers.

    Should I use flange head bolt with no washer? Hex head with lock washer?

    I would like to get the tranny mounted and the driveshaft in by next week, the body is almost ready to put back on.

    Thanks.

    Hi len, the GM catalog specifies 7/16"-14 x 1" long for all four points on your manual tranny. The 'spacers" are listed for M40 only.

    As for the washers that is your call. There should be two under the cross support on the bolts going into the mount to help distribute the load, the GM washers were quite thick as well but you should be able to find some at same place as the bolts. The two from the mount into the tranny show no washers, but personally I would use them again just to help spread out the load.

    I didn't use lockwashers. The torque is fairly high and I have never had any back off. If you decide to use them its always a good idea to also use a thin washer under that to prevent the lockwasher from scoring the part (ie, thin washer between the part being clamped and the lockwasher).

    I think I went longer wiht my bolts, I wanted them to be flush with top part of tranny when installed. Mine is an automatic and oddly enough on my other car I ended up taking the spacers out to get the driveline angles all sorted out.

    **edit** the assembly manaul does show lockwashers under the bolt heads on the mount to tranny bolts.

    Tim;

    Thanks for the info. I have to clean up the tranny case and then I will be ready to install the tranny and bellhousing. I finally got the wheels back on yestarday. The front end is not complete yet, I have a few things to replace, I just wanted to roll it out of the garage.

    talk to you later.
