sounds like your front left turn signal bulb has a broken filiment and it is touching the other filiment.
change that bulb and you will probably be back to normal.

i checked the front turn signal bulbs in my front bumper and they looked ok...no broken filments. but i replaced them anyways. turned my lights on to check if the dash turn signal light turned off, but it didnt. it was still lit. and now the drivers side light in my front bumper wont work with my headlights on. whats going on here???

...im also having trouble with my tail lights. does that have anything to do with my issues in the front?

have you looked at your wiring that is near the bottom of the steering column? check it out and see if someone has been chopping on it in the past. hopfully not and we can try to make some progress.

before digging in too deep, make sure every bulb is good and make sure all of your grounds are good.

one problem place for the 70 lark (if i remember correcty) is that the front blinker bulb sockets ground by being installed into their holes in the light fixtures. i have seen them have trouble grounding because little springy fingers are covered with rust or because they or the inside of the fixture have been painted. make sure this hasnt happened to you.
scotch brite or sandpaper can help this problem.

    lemme know what happens next.

before i start digging through my dash, i have a quick question... would a bad light bulb socket in the rear cause any problems in the front?

if you want need a 1970 gm wiring diagram in pdf format.
    email me at buickragtop74@yahoo.com
have the heading tell me what you want.
i will send them to you and you can see how things are hooked up. :TU:

in answer to your Q ... i think the front and rear blinker wires stay seperate until the turn signal switch is engaged(thats why your fronts dont light up when you hit the brakes)..

I'd check the socket (of the offending bulb) first, then the rear.

This may sound too simple, but make sure you are using the correct double contact bulb (like and 1157) in the sockets that need double contact bulbs. Using a single contact bulb in a double contact socket with short the two circuits together. When this happens the parking lights go on with the brakes for instance if this short is in one of the tail lights for instance.

    Hope this helps

    ok...were getting somewhere!

i changed ALL of the light bulbs, and EVERYTHING works perfect except for the front left turn signal.

With my headlights on, the front left turn signal light is off...but when i hit my left blinker it flashes.
With my headlights off, everything operates as its supposed to.

...i checked my grounds, sockets, connections, and wires and everything seems to be fine, but i did notice that the wire harness to the front left turn signal was cut and taped together. the only thing i could come up with is that when it was cut maybe the person who cut it retaped the wrong wires together. oh and my left turn signal light in my dash still stays on with my headlights on.

Have you checked the ground wire to the switch? It's a seperate wire going to a spade terminal near the switch, not in the connector plugged into the switch.

Also, check the connector that plugs into the back of the speedo. Mine has a loose peg at this connection and did some weird stuff before I figured out what it was.

maybe they got those two wires mixed up when they installed the socket. but first off, that wouldnt make the dash light come on and second, i think that it would look brighter than the other side of the car when you had only the parking lights on.

it really sounds to me like the grounding for front left socket is poor.

i think you need to dig in and make sure that socket was properly spliced into the system.

    Woooooo Hoooooooooo!

i found the problem! it was where the ground wire for the front left turn signal goes into the socket. that area has rust and the ground wire doesnt pop into the socket properly. its a loose connection. i tried wiggling the ground wire at the connection with the lights on and what do you know...it worked! is there any way i could fix this or do i have to get new sockets?

a new socket would make me sleep better.
splices need to be better than twisted wires and black tape if you want them to last.
solder and shrink tube is my preference. if you dont feel like soldering yourself, find a buddy who is a good car audio installin dude, he will get ya fixed up.

did the original sockets have ground wires or did they ground through the socket mounting fingers (i am more of a 74 lesabre guy and not real familiar with the lark sockets)?

if you get a chance, post a pic of your socket.

Solder the wires on the new socket, and cover the soldered splice well.
