Guys: My brother is seriously considering this car. I am a Buick guy and he is a Corvette guy but an admirer of classic Mopars. Can you share your opinions about this car? Things to look out for (other than Buicks...ha! )? Muchas Gracious, amigos!:TU: 63 440
get it Looks like a pair of carbs, intake, heads and some exhaust manifolds would make a nice max wedge clone.I dought you could do that car for less than they are asking.
Ahh....Southern Motors...... Looks nice in the pics. All the trim is there, has been converted to large bolt pattern axles and possibly front suspension as evidenced by the later "cop car" rims. Because it is at Southern Motors, and is painted HotRod/Resale Red I would be suspect of generous amounts of body putty under the shiny red paint. Southern Motors is known for rebadging 6 cyl/283 Chevelles and calling them SS396 cars. Also have been known to buy a car here, re-title it in KY ( or some other SOUTHERN state as they have an agent down south ) and then bring that title up here to Michigan. Presto-chango! We now have a SOUTHERN car! This implies that it is completly rust free and had only been driven by Miss Daisy's chauffeur on Sunday afternoons. Look CLOSELY at the car. If it checks out, then that is a really good price for a turn key cruiser. There is another muscle car lot on the east side called Mustang Showdown Muscle Cars. They seem to feature a lot of red cars too that have a LOT of body work just waiting to start popping out 6 months after you plunk down the serious cash.
My favorite year and model. Just needs the cross ram which I understand is now being remade. A guy in high school had a black one like that with a big compound curved 4 speed shifter.
Re: get it Are those parts reproduced by Mopar? Koller Dodge used to be 2 minutes from work, but they are history. He like it to look as period correct as $$ allows. Do 413 heads bolt on say a 440 block? Is the 2 X 4 manifold a difficult piece?
Re: Ahh....Southern Motors...... Thanks for the heads up. Apparently the salesman states the paint it 10 years old with some wear.
No. But it isn't cheap! That can be had from Mancini Racing and/or Mopar Performance if you can't find one used at a swap. With carbs and linkage, Maxie short cross ram intakes are usually in the $1000 range. This was the asking price at a recent Mopar only swap meet here in MI. Proper exhaust manifolds are in the same price range!
If you want me to look into it, I can David, I don't know what you guy's are looking to do with the car, but there is a pretty darn nice 65 Coronet 440 just down the road from me that I thought of buying for myself last year. Medium turquois in and out, healthy 440/torque flight, has Weld Pro Stars. Car has run mid to low 12's with traction problem's. The paint is older, but very presentable, interior is nice, body is very nice, straight, and I believe was/is rust free. Just a grandma car that got a 440 transplanted, and a repaint at the same time probably 10-15 years ago. I think he want's $12,500 for the car, but not positive, could be more or less? Do I need to check it out again?
I meant for someone else I can't buy the car myself, I have other places where my money is tied-up:Brow:
Re: Ahh....Southern Motors...... I don't understand that??? All of those cars came with "large bolt pattern axles." The only Mopars with a smaller bolt pattern were A-body's up until the early 70's. The car does look nice in the pics. If it's not full of bondo, it's worth the money.
That's what I get for living in A-body World for my entire Mopar career! I was thinking they ALL used the SBP until the early 70's! DOH!ou:
Kohler Dodge gone? David, did I read that right? Is Kohler Dodge out of business? If it is, does this mean I have to cancel my account with them?!ou: I haven't had a Mopar for over 8 years, but I did send them tons o' cash.:Brow: o No:
Great model. Also on my list of favorites. This blue one is super sharp too at the same price. http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/2/2/60860622.htm
Re: I meant for someone else So when does the 1955-1974????????????? become 3+1 3+1 3-1? :Brow: :Brow: That guy messing with you again?
Your addition and subtraction total is correct Right number, but falls into the latter half of the 1955-1974 range :Brow:
Re: Kohler Dodge gone? Yes, they sold the dealership and it's now Naperville Dodge. I live a few minutes away, but I'm not a MOPAR guy so I don't know if they will continue with the performance parts.
Re: Re: Koller Dodge gone? I heard Dempsey Dodge in Plano, IL was picking up where Koller left off. I believe there was tragic accident at Koller last spring/fall. I wonder if that had anything to do with the ownership change.
