Jim, the 70 Challenger is my favorite mopar of all times. 440 magnum with a 4spd banging the crap out of the gears. I've driven one in the early 70s and can say it is a real good ride (rattles aside). I'm skeered to even think about it or I may end up with another car in the fleet.

If you're looking for a new project after the GSX, this sounds like a winner to me.

As to your question what's it worth, I have no clue. I see them running from $17K to over $100K on Collector Car Traders depending on originality, condition, options, etc. That's a huge spread compared to our Buicks.

Go for it if it feels right. You didn't just fall off the turnip truck, and I'm sure you have a good idea of your own about the value if you've seen it.

    Mike Wowk Who freakin' cares?

U code(4bbl 440) E bodies even though they are rarer than 6 bbl cars don't seem to bring near the money of a 6 pack car. Although that car is the right color and it's a 4 gear which means she should also have a Dana out back. I'm sure that that combo of options and color should make that thing even in RUFF SHAPE worth a min. of 10K. If it's not as bad as your saying and it's got the numbers matching engine and trans(18 spline Hemi trans) It could be worth as much as 30K as it sits. A restored #2 Chally like your talking about could be worth over 75K when done. Be forwarned that E body parts are CRAZY PRICED. They are now making FULL 1/4 panels for them now for $599.00 and of course floor pans are available also.

Mikey is pretty close in his ~quesstimation~. Bear in mind that a 1970 or 1971 E-body convertible FIREWALL and FLOORPAN is worth $5000-$7000. And that is in crappy, nasty shape with no frame rails and the two A-pillars. E-bodies, and their parts, are going through the roof.

2 months ago I called a guy off Ebay about a 71 4spd/dana/go-wing challenger. I even made a 350 mile round trip to inspect the car. It was rough, but all there except the engine. That car was only a 383, but was originally a GY3 colored (citron mist, a rare & weird yellow) in need of all floor pans, a trunk pan and both 1/4 extensions. It went off Ebay under reserve at 5,200? or so, his bottom line was 6,500. I tried to bargain the guy down, but a week later somebody bought it SIGHT UNSEEN! He got his 6500 and probably could have got more. Go figure. At this point, I'm glad I got both of my E bodies years ago, I'd be driving a jacked up 79 Monte if not.

jim, ya know i've been a mopar vendor for 25 years, and i can tell you the E body cars & parts prices are staggering. $1500 bids on ebay for one nos mirror, etc.

i remember about 25 years ago, a local guy had a solid, runnning, 440-6 four speed 70 cuda for $1000.00 do beleive i shuda bought that car.

    Cuda convertible

Not sure who it was, but steered a guy thatg I met at Casey's garage and wayeard truck ranch a few weeks ago to a Cuda (Barracuda?) convertible I had just seen near there. Heard he bought it, think it was under $1000. Rough, but appeared to be all there .

Well.. If it is a basket case.. a #1 or #2 car, you are looking at about 2000.00 to 5000.00 to sell it if its all there and salvageable, also depending on options. 6000.00 to 7000.00 if its a #3 or #4 condition.
If you are looking to do a true full tilt boogy restoration..which at that point is a #5, your talking about a 100,000.00$ nut to choke on. But if it is only a basic 440 car.. you could do a descent resto and get like 15,000.00 to 24,000.00 for it. If you are looking to build a "Barrett" car... forget it.. you'll never make your money back unless you are crafty with hot wiring to obtain it, and can do all the work yourself.
I have almost 18,000 into my barracuda so far and it is only in parts , let alone I still need steel fenders for it, another thousand down the drain. LOL

My buddy inherited a 383 "billboard" 1970 'Cuda when his uncle passed away. It needs a full resto as it had been sitting outside in a "lean-to" under a canvas tarp for the last 15 years. My buddy called a couple of the major Mopar restoration houses for prices. To turn it back into a 383 'Cuda, they wanted $85,000. Period. He asked them about not having to do the interior and engine/drivetrain as he can get the parts and he is a friend of the Hennsley Racing family......they quoted him $65,000. Problem is, a 383 'Cuda may be nice, but it won't bring anything near that $85,000 resto price tag. Yet.

Tell me about it. In 1980 I had a chance to but a triple white 69 Firebird 400 convertible for 1000.00 too, and I passed it up, even though I had the cash...
