Modify column shift auto to prevent shifting into neutral when manually shifting

I have done complete teardown and rebuilds on 64 and 65, but never taken a '68 column apart. Does anyone know if the shift gate in a '68 is the same as the later years?

Or is it a new re-design due to the ignition being incorporated '69 on?

(I just moved, so my shop manual is still packed in a box marked, "kitchen stuff" or "cat toys" or "reactor control rods" or something...)
