Post your pics here for the Model Car Contest, if you have a Stock (Factory appearing) model. Any year, any body (GSX/GN/Riv/etc.), BUICK ONLY!
Here's a few shots of my resto on an original AMT annual kit of a '66 Skylark GS. I swapped in the dual quad nailhead from the AMT/Ertl '66 Riv and added the better detailed chassis from the AMT /Ertl '66 Olds 442 which has nicer suspension and exhaust componants to help out the details better.
Here's a few shots of the 80's issue of the AMT/Ertl molded in yellow '65 Riviera kit. I painted it in Duplicolor lacquer in a dark charcoal tone and added the vinyl top and the ribbed rocker panels. The road wheels are from the '70 GSX kit and while they are 1/24th instead of the Riv's 1/25th scale they work nice and add a tough "all business" look to this banker's hot rod.
Awesome guys, these all look great! :TU: Adam, do you take extra steps to create that low stance or do the model kits come that way? Please forgive my ignorance as I don't build many models and I really like the way yours sit.
I wondered the same thing when I did my yellow car above. They both sit low in the back, and I don't know why. I tried to shim the lower piece so it would not sink so far into the body, but then the back bumper would not go on all the way. o No: I kinda like the way they sit myself:grin:
The stance is exactly how the GS's looked in the print ads from back in the day. Odd as it was an era when everyone was jacking the rear of their cars way up in the air. ou:
Those kits do sit low, It is quite simple to raise the rear end though. All you need to do is make some shims to fit between the springs and the floor pan and between the suspension arm attatching points. This method doesn't look perfect if you inspect it close up but the car looks much better when on display. That is how I got the stance for my Mad Max car.
