I’m looking at converting my Stage 1 replica to front disc brakes. A company here in Ontario has a kit that is from MBM and has the booster with the Delco Morraine stamp. I imagine one company makes the kit, but I’ll ask the question anyway: Does anyone here have experience with MBM brake kits? Could you please share your experience with them? Thanks in advance.
I’m also considering The Right Stuff conversion kit from Summit along with the brake line kit. Im looking for opinions from those with experience with either of these kits.
My aftermarket kit is just like an MBM. It's better than drums, except for the brake pad dust sneaking thru your rally wheel slots. Steve Caruso reps the MBM disc kits... www.Carusoperformance.com
Fitted the MBM kit to my '69 about 5 years ago. Not quite the bolt in I was expecting, some fiddly work on the proportioning valve, and had to get some brake lines reflared. No issues with the calipers, spindles or booster.
I converted a 70 Chevelle manual front drums to manual front disc using an MBM kit. It was typical Chineseaum. The pads were horrible so I threw them away and used better pads. One brake rotor had a bad spot and was repaired where it should have been rejected. The calipers were decent, the hoses cheap, the brackets and backing plates were OK, as were the spindles, bearings, seals and dust covers. They were no where near the quality of OEM GM parts from yesteryear. The master cylinder and proportioning valve were good. I had to shorten the master cylinder pushrod and I had to revamp the brake tubing, which was expected. All in all, it was a good upgrade. As with most Chinese stuff, the quality could have been better.
Thanks for the link, Zedo. They were my first contact. Their conversion kits are from MBM and that’s what prompted me to start this thread.
I have had "John Stuart" rebuild my original calipers. I have also purchased disc brake pads & rear drums & brake shoes. From my experience, I can recommend the company.
