Master cylinder / power booster angle?

Have a 70 GSX clone with front disks and the brakes are pretty marginal. I noticed that the rod from the booster is in the lower hole on the brake pedal arm. I think this is the problem because you dont get good mechanical advantage (leverage) as when the rod is in the upper hole as I believe it is supposed to be.

The problem is that the bracket that holds the power booster to the firewall is at such a steep angle with the master cylinder puinting up, that I cannot get the rod unto the upper hole on the pedal arm. If the MC and booster were horizontal, I could get the rod in the upper hole. Is this normal??? Do you guys have the MC and booster pointing up??? Maybe I can find a new/different mounting bracket that will mount the booster horizontally like I believe it should be.

So how are the boosters mounted on all of your cars, pointing up or horizontal??? Is the booster rod in the upper hole on the brake pedal arm???? Any other thoughts???

    Thanks
