    Yes, look for consistent flashes.

If you can get the carb apart without tearing a gasket, then you should be fine.

I cleaned the carb today and I did find a tiny amount of varnish so I'm glad I did that.

What I wish I had done sooner was pull the valve covers off because I discovered something interesting.

    I'm a dumbass! :Dou:

Here's a picture of what I found. I think I have three options here... My front cover gasket may have folded around the water passage (had a hell of a time getting the cover back on without taking the pan off), my head gasket is bad (very unlikely since the motor has 5,000 miles on a rebuild(they forgot distributor gear bolt when assembling and thats what made me have to tear it apart) Or, the intake gasket didn't seal around the the water passage( I did notice some water dripping into my valley from what looked like just under the head but wasn't sure if it was from pulling the intake off or not)

What do you guys think? Pull it back out and do it right? On a bit of a budget here unless someone wants to buy my Matco 4s box. (by budget I mean at least paying off 2,000 on my credit card before I spend any more on my car and I only get paid $450 a week)

If you had timing cover off and no water in oil prior to that, then off it comes again....
that way you can fix the slinger at the same time!
Show me a pic off the Matco Box, always could use more tool storage!

You wouldn't happen to have a slinger laying around anywhere would you?

Have you done a leak down test to see if the valves and rings (mostly valves) are sealing?

Make sure you get that mix/coolant mixture out of there ASAP! I know it is hard to clean but make sure you do. I had this happen once and the valve covers rusted right away so I tossed them.. Took me a full day to clean the engine once I got it out of the car. If you do not pull the engine then do at least 3 oil changes after you fix the leak.

I know I have a bunch of 455 slinger's, I'd have to compare them to the one I have in the pile of parts for the 350. If they're the same you are welcome to one.

Nice Tool Box! The wife and I are thinking of painting the '70 soon, so $ gonna be tied up. I'll have a 350 assembled soon, maybe a trade of some sort is in the wind?!
I'll see about that slinger, gonna be in the shop this afternoon...

Thanks! I apprecieate it. I'm actually really looking for some cash on the box because being the typical 20 year old I've run afoul of the credit card companies and would like to get some of that sorted out.
