Sheesh!!! If the car is that shiny indoors, imagine what it will look like in the September sunshine. Once you get ahead of your opponent, he will be blinded and have to lift. Isn't there some sort of international treaty against blinding your opponent in battle? I hope you're preparing a press packet for Diego so he can talk intelligently about your car. I don't think he's ever had to ad lib about an Edsel before.
That looks like one of those new F.A.S.T. stickers (not the banner). You holding out on us, Brian? Is Wayne in trouble?
Why am I suddenly having "Driving Miss Daisy" flashbacks? The air cleaner setup on that car/barge/poodle is SICK! Let it be known, I now feel cheated with my tiny cowl induction setup...that car looks like it should weigh a gajillion pounds though, hard to believe it's gonna come in under the '64's weight! :TU: Donny: by any chance, that wouldn't happen to be an L88/auto car owned by a certain gentleman in the GM documention business? --------------------------- Hillbilly Racing Team Tired of AutoZone's *limited* selection? Then try the Pottery Barn!
Gush! That is really sweet! Thanks for the extra pic's. Bell bottoms, white belt and all... Brian's my new underdog P/S hero! :TU: ...wish I could quit you...
WOW - THAT'S AWSOME! :TU: Someone will have to come up with a change to this icon: :3gears: Recalling my Granddad's 64 Galaxy with 390-300hp and 3-on-the-tree the "tree" part sure isn't the hot set up. Brian, couldn't you have gone with the "multi-drive keyboard control" with an automatic? Or was this car originally equipped like I see it? Probably because of the engine I have that lotto-money dream of owning a 58' Merc with the top engine - but in a super heavy all-optioned Turnpike Cruiser. I never even thought of the 400hp engine in whatever trimline that car is! My Granddad's neighbor had the 430 3x2bbl engine in either a Turnpike Cruiser or some other higher level Merc - my Dad said it sure was a cool ride! I wish I could enter Ed Sullivan's contest - you could have won a 58' Merc. See the link: http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/Mercury/1958/index.htm
Glad you like it. You are correct they were available with the Auto......this might sound strange....but I actually want to race a three on the tree and this one had it. The three speeds for MEL engined 58's are beefed up Borg Warner units with unique one year only input, second speed and first reverse slider gears as well as tailhousing and large mainshaft. Will it be optimum?.....no, will I wad up the linkage.....maybe...will it be different? The best part, Yes. I learned to drive in and owned several three on the tree cars....hope it's like riding a bike. :3gears:
Well??????? Well Brian, now that you've had the chance to drive the car out on the road, how does it feel?
Haven't had it on the road yet.....but the driveway burnouts felt good. :TU: (I have a long concrete drive)
I want to watch the 1-2 shift. There was an art to speedshifting 3 on the tree cars. I got pretty good at it (after annihilating countless old trannies in my old Fords) and I've got a feeling Brian knows what he's doing there, too. Biggest worry is bending the lever or breaking the shift bowl. Broke the bowl on my 59 Catalina HT, and bent the shift lever on my 61 Catalina. Second gear was straightup! Put a Hurst in the 59, left the 61 that way. Afraid it would snap if I straightened it back. They obviously beefed up the shift bowl design between 59 and 61. Those 2 Pontiacs were 2 of the cooleset cars i ever owned. 59 was a tripower with some crazy gear in it. 61 was a 4 barrel convertible. Just happened to be Honduras maroon.
