OK guys...I need some advise. I've got a dark polo green metallic finish on my Bravada and I FINALLY got around to waxing it. Here's the issue. Since it's been over a year since I've done anything to it (I know, hang me with a short rope from a very tall tree), the finish is a bit rough to the touch (it's a 2002 so it's clear coat). I have a lot of surface scratches, a little oxidation and some sh*t on the rocker panels. I'm using a Mequires clear coat wax. I'm thinking I need to run a clay bar over the entire surface and re-polish. Sound right? I really want it to shine and be protected. When I get my truck done, I'm going to do the wife's car (Maple Red metallic) and eventually the convert (going to repaint it a deep blue metallic).
Well, I would use clay bar and then get 3M Mirror Glaze set-up. They have a 3 step process. You should also read the instructions for the set/kit. It would also be beneficial to buy a right angle buffer and read on how to use it properly.
A good buff wouldn't hurt :TU: I love the 3M stuff, I use the Imperial Glaze as a hand rub compund to get off those small stains left behind by bird sh*t I actually on a whim tried out one of those color polishes on my '97. The car is a very light blue metallic. The results were: After a really thorough buffing job on the driver's side (I got a racing stripe while parked), the color polish hid about 95% of the scratch, which had previously stood out like a cat in the soup I tried it before a good buffing, just a wash- didn't do squat. I washed, dried, buffed, washed, dried, used color polish, hand buffed, waxed. Took about four hours but I'm not complaining- that scratch is well hidden now.
