Many, but not all 94-95 GM vehicles were a weird hybrid connection....OBD 1.5 if you will. I've been looking for scanners that will work with these. Check out the Actron CP9145 - there may also be other models that will work. Occasionally I see a used Snap-On MT2500 scanner for sale - they will work. They're out there....just not easy to find.
... and if you end up pulling the opti, definately do the water pump and hoses. Murphy sez it will take a dump as soon as you fix the opti. They should be changed as a pair as far as I'm concerned ...

The Optisparks in 92-94 had some issues with condensation and leaky water pumps, and tended to go bad faster than those found in 95-96's: http://www.corvettefever.com/howto/16758/index.html That's not to say they're the most durable parts anyway- you're lucky to get 90k miles out of a 95-96 opti, and the life on the 92-94 ones can sometimes be half that or less. Unless you KNOW when the Optispark was changed on that car, I'd yank it and change it and the water pump all at once just to level-set. When you do, make sure you put in the 95-96 model Optispark (which will need a different drive, as mentioned in that article I attached). If after changing out the Optispark you're still having issues, then I'd go through one of the normal troubleshooting guides.
