I have found a good engine. A 5.3 LM7 from a 2002 Avalanche. 82000 miles, started and run before some interior dismantling, reputable salvage yard, 90 day warranty. Absolutely complete from fan to flexplate, engine cover still on, harness and ECM, fuel rails, injectors, coils, all of it. Only sitting in the salvage yard since February 2011. Everything. AC, PS, alt, belt, it's all there.

    1250.00.

    Ok by me.

Questions: oil pan? My 66 Cadillac has a front sump pan, and I don't think the LSx pan will work. Any other reasons I should have reservations? I plan to use my THM400 SP trans behind the new engine. Adapters are available for that, and I know where to buy an adapted wiring harness and have the ECM reflashed to work perfectly in this setup.

    All comments and advice welcome!

You can get a front sump pan from an 04-06 GTO. Make sure to get the pickup with it.

Frank, how is this going? Every time I drive my '66 Cadillac I think of LS engines... :beers2:

Ted, I chickened out. I had the original 429 rebuilt. It was a major project (it needed a new crankshaft) but I bit the bullet and kept it original. The numbers block and heads are fine anyway. It should be ready in July.

    I like stock anyway! :beers2:

Also cool. Mine has only about 54000 on it, runs just about perfect but the air snorkel just restricts flow so much...I ought to try it with an open element for fun. Too bad its not one to just flip the lid! :bglasses: I love my caddy
