I know that most of you probably think it's a sin to lower a Buick, but I want that lower stance and was wondering if anyone has bought lowering springs to lower their car? I've seen some springs on SFX Performance for a good price... I know you can use 2" drop spindles, but do you keep the stock springs when using them? o No:
Hey bro, I just dropped my '70 skylark with some 3" drop sprins in the front and 1 1/2 in the back with adjustable shocks in the rear as well. HTML: it's a sin to lower a Buick It's a sin not too :Brow: And when it comes to drop spindles, i believe you can use the spindles with stock sprins.
Looks good Marvin. I was thinking of a 2/1 drop for my '70 skylark. Over on the truck forums, it's always been recommended to go with spindles first, springs second as the spindles retain the geometry of the suspension. I'm not sure if that's true or not. I used 2" spindles and a QA1 coilover conversion to drop my SS. Thanks for posting that pic, now I have an idea of what a lowered '70 looks like. Dred
I didnt go with the drop spindles because i dont have disc brakes. i have drums all around and nobody makes drop spindles for drums  but it came out ok for now. if when ever i get money i will go for air bags :TU:
Ahh, that makes sense. My '70 also has drums all the way around, but a disc conversion is at the top of my list .
Nice drop. Looks perfect to me. Are those 15" wheels on the car? I've got some 14" steel wheels and for some reason they make my car look low already. Yeah, one day I plan on putting air bags on... but, springs will do for now... Thanks again for the pictures Marvin! :TU:
Marvin, That turned out nice with the 3 inch drop coils. Can you take a picture from the front of the crossmember? Curious to see how much clearance you have. Mine isn't that low, but it is low enought that I can't get a regular jack under the front crossmember, I have to use a low profile one. Here is mine with the 2 inch drop coils from OPGI.
Hey Chris, I will take a picture later on today, but i as well cant fit a regular jack under. YOu have 17" wheels right? what size tires are you using? Love those 68 and 69's with the back fender that covers some of the wheel. Makes it look more dropped.. :TU: :TU:
Car looks great Marvin, also gives me a reference as to how worn out my Springs really are (my car sits about that low, with spring helpers in the springs!) What size tires are you running right now?
yes, 17x7's, 245/45 in the rear and 225/45 up front. if I would have ordered the rims with more backspacing I could have gotten more tire in the back. Yes the back looks dropped w/o doing anything. I didn't even replace the rear springs (of course they have 110k miles on them, so they sag on their own :error: ), as I liked the stance the way it sat after I lowered the front, and I was afraid that if I put new springs in the back, I wouldn't get it right.
You have 17x7's all the way around? The rims in the rear look like they have a deeper lip... Looks good!
Thanks, yes, 17x7's all the way around. these Boyd's look like "deep dish" wheels, becuase they don't have the second lip like the Torque Thrusts do. Here is a close up of the front wheel.
