    Hi

Today, I did clean my 67 electra carb with a carb cleaner. I did spray outside and also inside the carb, with the carb stil on the car. When I did restart the car the low oil pressure light when onfor a few second. A few hour later; again the light did come on for a few second, I then went for a 10 miles trip. Two hours later I started the car, and the light went on, but didn't come off. After 30 seconds I heard noise coming from the engine , and cut it off.
Could it be the carb cleaner who washed the oil?
    Or something else,

    Thanks
    David

Likely something else. Sounds like you have a serious oiling problem and you were smart to shut it off after hearing the noise. Assuming you have checked your dipstick, I would try starting it again now that has cooled down. If the light goes out, try changing your oil and filter.........you may want to try heavier oil, such as 20w-50.

You should check your oil pressure with a real pressure guage, and if it is too low you may have oil pump trouble, could be a clogged pick up screen or some worn bearings. Unfortunately, your 430 engine is prone to oiling system trouble. Good luck! :bglasses:

I wouldn't think the carb cleaner would have any long term negative effects either. The worst it could/would do is wash the oil from your cylinder walls and you'd have a "dry" start up. But once it fires and the oil gets moving, they'd be relubed anyways.

How much did you use?? Maybe you used too much and it's ran into your oil pan and thinned your oil to much to pump properly??
    Time for an oil change?

Just for the record... I never spray carb cleaner on the inside of the carb unless the engine is running. (or I remove the carb first)

    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

Agreed, sounds like a coincidence. Maybe you were spraying the carb with the car running and gunning the engine? If so you may have loosened something in the pan which is now clogging the pickup tube. Either way it sounds like your pickup tube is clogged. Besides removing the pan (which is the best way to assess) you could drain the oil and replace the oil with about a gallon of diesel fuel. DO NOT RUN the engine with the diesel in there! If you let that set in the pan for a week (or more) that will usually clean the sludge from your pickup and pan. Drain the diesel and pour 2-3 quarts of oil in your engine with the drain plug removed to flush remaining diesel out. Then refill with oil and start it paying diligent attention to oil pressure light and/or noises. If you do not have oil pressure you may need to prime the pump with vaseline to restore flow. If this whole thing doesn't work you'll have to pull the pan and most likely replace the pickup.

Before I rebuild a motor, I drain the oil and run it with 4 qts. of kerosene (diesel is nearly the same) for around 5 or 10 minutes at SLOW IDLE. This cleans it out before dissassembly, and I haven't spun any bearings so far but they sure do smoke like hell!:Brow:

    Ok
    So far:
I did put a new oil filter and new oil, and same problem, no pressure and noise.

Now, the front cover is out of the car and I had no oil in the new filter, so the oil is not sucked .

    Question:
Is the valve in the oil pump cover must go all the way down the hole and seal it completly?
There is a 1/8" gap in mine and maybe its where all the pressure goes!
Also, I had to hamer down the shaft and gear from behind the front cover, he was turning, but could not take it out by hand.

Now, I need a oil pump kits and maybe a oil and front cover.
    What coud I do next?
Is the best things not to take the motor out and open it?

    Thank you for your help

    David

I think I have found the problem.
I have let the oil cover in diesel for 24h, I then play a little with valve and, I was able to push it all the way in the hole and back.
I then found a little plastic piece behind the valve.
Now the bolt holding the spring is much easier to place, as i had previously check it and had difficulties to get it back in.
Still the valve don't move freelly.
Gonna buy a new oil cover and put everything back to try.

You said you found a piece of plastic in there...............I am concerned it may be a broken piece of your camshaft sprocket. You may need to replace your timing chain and gears. :bglasses:
