This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things. To be able to enjoy the full potential of the board for you, you need to be fully registered.. and that's easy.. Just send an email to me at jim@trishieldperformance.com and I will verify your registration. This policy will remain in effect indefinitely, as it has completely eliminated the bad actors from our site, who would spam and hack it, once they gained access. Thanks JW

"I have another question for you, (if this is a whole new can of
worms, please don't let me take up your time, you've been more than helpful already). My car is a 1966, Buick LeSabre custom, 2 door, hardtop with a 340ci engine (I am 99% sure) with 2 barrel Rochester, and an ST300 (2 speed with variable pitch) auto gearbox, power steering and power brakes, no A/C, no power windows.

The bulkhead (firewall) panel plate (near the brake servo) reads as follows

    style :454372-6-16
    body No. :415134
    paint : B
    trim :691

The drivers door pillar plate reads

    GM Canada. DD
    645437O14863

On the side of the auto box is

    66 ML 214N

On the engine block at the drivers side close to the rear, the numbers 340 (are raised like a casting number) about an inch high!

I believe the O in the middle stands for Oshowa Ontario?. So according to my research so far using my 1966 chassis manual and various research books and web sites, things seem to match, BUT, there is no engine code on the block between the spark plugs on either side, the engine number on the block, at the front of the drivers side cylinder head reads

    UP 5489666-29

I can't find reference to a UP code anywhere in my books etc, the
engine looks like a 340. I know quite a bit about the history of the car.

It came to the UK with a member of the US air force who was based in south west Scotland, apparently there was some law! which said any cars imported by members of the armed forces had to be shipped back to the US with the returning individual or scrapped!, The car was sold to a scrapyard and was advertised (illeagally ?) for sale in 1980, a MR Goodfellow who had a few
American cars went to the yard and purchased the car, he then
registered it in the UK and owned it for 19 years, the last few of these years it was put aside as a project. Mr Goodfellow sold the car to a guy I knew who trailered it to his house and did nothing with it, when he decided to emigrate I bought the car from him in December 2000. There was a note of Mr Goodfellow's phone number in the car so I called him and he told me what you read above of how he aquired the car, he says the mileage is correct (
46,761miles) and he never changed the engine.( he filled in the details to have the car registered in the UK and the engine number above is on the documents that I have for the car)

I am not sure what numbers should match, if any, or what the engine code and number mean. I am not bothered about matching numbers etc, it's not really going to be a show car, I just want to get it back on the road and drive it, but the engine number is a puzzle to me, I don't know if the Canada
connection makes a difference to numbers etc, but any info on the engine code would be most appreciated, or if you could point me to someone who has knowledge on this subject I would be grateful.

Please don't put yourself out over this one, you have been more than helpful already and I won't mind at all if you bat this back to me or off to another of your Buick freinds, cheers and thanks for your time,

Louis, sorry for the huge email."

OK, I know you're on this list now Louis. Can somebody answer his questions?
