Been in the lower 80s here. We are still riding around with the tops down. We have flowers in bloom. This is expected to change this weekend when he highs willl drop to 60.

  4. Greg, we finally got a little of the white stuff overnight too. But only about 1/2" so far. We're also expecting a few inches this week, and highs in the 20's. Hard to believe it was 84 only about 3 weeks ago. Good thing I winterized the car on Sunday, finally.

  5. So Jim, how's the job market out there in NC? :Brow:

    Unfortunately we have been discovered.

We went 10 years or so without any real accumulation of snow which is typical and then one freak record breaking 22 inch nightmare. You guys can have all the snow.

Low temp here last night 62. High today about 80.

  7. I don't know what makes you think we want any snow here either... :gt:

My wife is looking for a new employer. She's a programmer/analyst, but she's being paid about 20% below market for this area. Her employer is well-known for underpaying everyone. If she were to get a good job offer, we would consider moving to a warmer climate. Last week she came across a 6-8 month position locally, that would have paid 3 TIMES her current salary. :Dou: Too bad you're out of a job afterwards though...

Suggest SAS Institute here in Cary ranked as one of the best companies for employees in the US. The campus is more like a resort than an employer.

  10. Jim, thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to my wife. I personally am more interested in getting far away from the great white north than she is, but it doesn't hurt to check into stuff. She would be happy just to move to South Dakota, as if that's much of an improvement...

We have the Research Triangle Park (RTP) which is filled with tech companies like Cisco, IBM etc.. The Town of Cary has more PHDs in Electrical Engineering than any place in the world. It is the location of NC State's School of Engineering(my alma mater), Duke University and its school of engineeering and the University of NC at Chapel Hill--all with about 15 miles of each other.

Oh sure, rub it in. You're cruel. Just plain cruel...

Dave, I'm a P/A as well. Two big programming employers come to mind out there; Great Plains & Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Is she with either of those?

I'd love to move to the Carolinas-area. Never been there, but always been drawn to that area of the country. Kinda staying here for family though.

  18. She works for a division of Marvin Windows. I've tried pushing her a little to apply with both MS/Great Plains and BCBS, but she hasn't found time yet. She's been taking evening classes this fall, will be done in about a week. We have another year and a half before we can really try to sell our house, so I want her to look locally before expanding her search maybe to the south/southwest. She has more specific job qualifications than I do, and potentially a better salary, though she currently lags quite a ways behind me. I have 14yrs exp as an inventory control mgr and system admin, but no computer degree, just a 4yr Bus Admin. She has found P/A positions in Colorado paying 55-70k.
