I have my eyes on a boat-tail riv with a 455, i am just wondering what i should look for on the motor, would this be a good doner motor? and is 300 bux a fair deal?
uzzled: Dude, $300 for a 455 with a boattail bolted around it is a screaming deal! What year boattail? If it is in decent shape, and you just want the motor, please be sure to part it out and not crush it. Door panels, glass, fenders, interior, lights and everything else is usable by somebody.
I would say that $300 just for the 455 is a fair deal if it runs. You'll definately end up with the engine for free if you part the car out, and prolly even some spare change for your pocket. (assuming it's not a total basket case) o No:
Did someone say parts??? I may need some parts if ya get it to part out...:Brow: Also most of the rivs I have got for parts usually are all stock so no one has butchered em... and they tend to be pretty well maintained mechanically. What year boattail? Clay
I do not know what year the car is, but it is in very buildable condition, i would NEVER EVER crush it, i am not evil! I don't even know if i should part it out or sell as a whole. I am not even sure if i wanta 455 of my 401 yet. lol just looking at my options. o No:
This is a news bulletin for BUICK nuts in the Sacramento CA area ...there's a 1975 Electra 2-door, blue w/white vinyl "opera" top for sale on N. Watt Ave.--I'll get the price and phone number tomorrow:blast:
So what kind of power could i expect from this year 455 with headers, aluminum intake, flattops, a nice cam, and a Carter AFB 625cfm? (I already have the carb so might as well use it i know 4555 can prolbly breath deeper than that)o No:
Mark J, Just wondering what you found out on that Electra. I'm looking for a 455 for my 67. I live in Orangevale so I'm close!:Brow: John
John, you'll find the Electra parked in a lot adjacent to the NAPA auto parts store on the corner of Watt and Elkhorn. I haven't been able to stop yet to get a price or a phone number, but from what I've seen, the car looks pretty sharp--like some old people owned it, and took real good care of it !:Brow:
Mark, Then it must be pricey if it's clean! TXGwildact, That's a long way to go for a 455, I should be able to find something local. On second thought I usually don't need much excuse for a road trip:grin: John
John, I have an update for you ! On my lunch break this afternoon, I drove up to see the Electra. Just as luck would have it, the owner was there and I talked to him about the car. It's a '74, not a '75, but it has 76,000 miles on it. I asked him to start it up, and it started with a couple of pumps on the gas pedal with very little effort. I didn't smoke, and it ran quite smoothly, just the way a big Buick should. Here's the best part. The sign in the window reads $ 3,000 o.b.o., but the owner said he would part with it for $ 2,300. Personally, I would offer $ 1,500 and see what he says. The car has been sitting there for over a month, so it's not like people are burning up his phone about a possible sale. E-mail me, and I'll give you the owner's name and phone number. Mark
Wish I had room for another! If someone buys my 90 Caravan for 1500.00 maybe I will. Sounds to nice to part out. I'm really just looking for a good 455. John
If you decide to make road trip, bring some sunscreen because it is hot here. You could also consider buying the 70' Wildcat($1250) that the motor is in and drive it back with you. Thanks for the Reply, Taylor
