Looking for some advice to build a cruzer

Alright guys I'm looking for some advice on building up an engine.

    I own a 70 skylark with a 350 convertable.

I'm looking to build it into a cruzer with a lil more performance but still be a nice ride.

    Here is the deal...

I'm looking for a lil more performance but still something i'd want to drive everyday. without going the 455 route (yet)

    I'm looking to do a 4bbl

ta intake manifold maybe some other used intake i dont know yet...

    mild cam

    shorty headers dual exaust
(this is where it gets odd though cause i still want my car fairly quiet when cruzin but maybe louden up if i lay into it)
I have heard of a guy taking it and running 3.5 inch exaust single for the majority of the length and a 2 inch Y pipe although this was in an off-road toyota.

now would an 800 cfm carb be over kill for what im looking for?
    is the intake necessary?

I'm also looking for advice on to put a free flowing silent exaust..... yea yea yea.... oxymoron.... but not the loud flowmaster set up.. but something with a lil more class

Check out the exhaust thread that was going on one of the other forums. Walker Super Turbo's are just what you are looking for as far as exhaust goes. I would run the T/A 2.5" dual exhaust setup with the Walker mufflers. It is a very nice looking system (aluminized) and the walkers are awesome mufflers. They have better performance numbers than Flowmasters, cost about 1/2 the price, and are quieter when you are not on it. Generally, when you get into the secondaries they really open up and will be fairly loud (although not as loud as flowmasters). They have a deeper rumble than the flowmasters too, more of a musclecar sound. Do you have the high-comp '70 350, or is it the 8.5-1 motor? If you have the high comp motor, you won't need but an intake and carb to enjoy the performance most of the GS350 guys here on the board do. That's my $.02.

    read that one

yea i have the low compression 8.5-1 ratio

thats why im looking to do something diffrent to it since i still have the 2bbl

from that thread they still say the walkers are loud.

again Im looking something quiet.... but decent performance. I don't get too much chance to listen to people exaust systems and when i do they're always flowmasters...

Nate - The Walker Super Turbos with 2.5" inlet/outlet are just what you're looking for! They are by far, the quietest of the 'free flowing' mufflers. The Walker Ultra Flo mufflers are even better (flow wise), but add more noise. They're not as loud as the Flowmasters though.

cray1801 Too much is just right.

Nate, if you were ever going to a 455, I would without a doubt go with an 800 cfm Q-Jet. I ran one on my mild 350 with excellent results.
