This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things. To be able to enjoy the full potential of the board for you, you need to be fully registered.. and that's easy.. Just send an email to me at jim@trishieldperformance.com and I will verify your registration. This policy will remain in effect indefinitely, as it has completely eliminated the bad actors from our site, who would spam and hack it, once they gained access. Thanks JW

Has anybody worked with The Wright Connection in Bakersfield, CA before? How were they?

Besides the usual sources (ebay, Craigslist), who else do you recommend for my parts search?

Here is a tip about a common mistake from one of those sites:

Up for bid is a new Auto Gear M-22 Muncie 4-speedthe transmission was never used. When I received it I put Redline synthetic lube in to protect the internals.

Hoo-boy. I get calls from folks whove added synthetic fluids to these transmissions and I just cringe. Fact is, the tranny described above (and fetching strong bidding on eBay) will have to be completely disassembled, cleaned and reassembled before it will work right.

You see, the synthetics are just too fine a lubricant. They coat the gears, adding too much slippage for the synchro ring to grip. Once used, everything gets coated and its nasty to remove.

Unless you want the original look and feel of a mechanical clutch I'd go hydraulic, even if you go with a factory 4 speed instead of an aftermarket 5 speed. I used American Powertrain for everything including pedals but there are plenty of aftermarket suppliers for all the necessary components.
