Bruce, have you searched for the Duplicolor DH 1608 high heat paint? I thought I sent you an email in regards to it, but cannot recall. You can also try www.oldbuickparts.com for their Buick red paint. To me, it looks too pink, but that may just be me:grin:
I got my Buick Red from Year One. here is a picture.... I used 2 cans. One dried flat. I called YearOne, they sent me another free :beer
From my experience the Duplicolor seems to be a bit light. I have found Krylon 2114 to be as close as possible to the original. This was confirmed to me by one of the retired Buick engineers from the day. I get mine from Horgers Automotive in Chesaning MI. 989-845-3840 ext 1. They stock it for me. Ask for Jim, he will help you out.
Don't use the stuff from CARS it is Salmon Pink? I almost S*#$@ after I painted my engine with this stuff! I have 4 extra cans anyone want it, its free
I think you are right David :Smarty: I used the DH1608 and it came out ok (for an in the car job) but my recollections of the 70's and what Buick engines looked like colorwise are not that SHADE---next time Krylon 2114---Pete
I've had good luck with the Bill Hirsch engine enamel. www.hirschauto.com Rated to 500 degrees and it stays glossy. I've noticed the color changes when the engine heats up and it goes back to the correct red when it cools off! :TU:
My local Ace Hardware store carries Krylon Buick red right on the shelf! Try your local Ace Hardware, you might get lucky.
I guess CARS never fixed their Buick Pink problem. I recall buying paint from them over 10 years ago with the same problem. I'm not going to bash them, but I will only use them as a last resort for anything, and I'm within an hours drive to their store!
spray can, air brush or brush compatible ... how big are they? yes, yes i am looking a gift horse in the mouth. ou: what i'm looking for is that if i take it i'd use it to paint a circle track car with. :3gears:
Auo Zone and NAPA carry 1608. I believe that color was verified as correct by D. Manner which is hard to top. Bill Hirrsch paint is the incorrect color.
Paint difference DH1608 and KRYLON trying to show difference in shade the Krylon seems a BIT darker---the place I got the Krylon had it under code "7114"(in their FACTORY coded cage) which is not the 2114 o No: listed above the actual can has a DIFFERENT code "2108 Banner Red"----I'm not sure what is up---maybe Krylon changes it coding but to me the BANNER RED looks real close to original Buick type red and it is DARKER then DH1608. :TU: HTH Pete
Don't think that's High Heat Krylon engine paint Pete - and the color on the plastic cap is only a reasonable facsimilie of the actual paint in the can - hence the difference in colour ! o No: You should only compare actual paint swatches for colour comparison. :TU:
Krylon website has only 4 colors under "High heat" applications white, beige, black, another light color but NO red o No: Pete
