A guy I knew who moved away last year. Said he left behind a 68 Hurst/Olds. Said it has no paperwork, but somehow confirmed the car as # 400 and something out of 500 and some made. He said it has the original drivetrain but the body is really rough. I will probably go see the car this weekend. What should I be looking for.

What's the story with these cars? Patrick

There were 515 built. All were silver w/ black stripes on side of car and on the hood.Trunk is black also. Came with a Toronado 455 engine painted red/orange. If it is real, should have real wood panels on dash, a small console with Hurst Dual gate shifter, dual snorkel aircleaner with force air induction, which looks like clothes dryer tubing attached to the air cleaner and running down to the front bumper. A pretty desirable car. If you can,get some pics!! If you wouldn't want it ,I'd be very interested in this car :Brow: Good luck!

Look also at the head designation. If it is a non- a/c car, it will have 'D' heads (look at the low left portion of the head for the ID). If it is an a/c car it will have 'C' heads. It will have an 'M' in the Vin for a Lansing built car. The Hurst badges will be different than what you are used to seeing. It was mentioned that the dash will have real wood on it. It should have the same graining on the wood as each dash was cut from the same piece of wood. The trim code will show '--' for the color code as it was a special silver (Peruvian silver -- Toro only color) I am trying to remember the tranny code for the '68. Let us know what you find! :TU:

I would be interested also if you guys pass on it. I have been looking for a 68 or 69 Hurst Olds for along time.

I also think the tag on the trans has the number of which car it is. For example, if it is car #400, I think there is a 400 on the trans. I may be wrong but I remember being told this by a collector.

The trans code is OW for a Hurst/Olds.

Also, not to contradict the previous message but I thought the paint code was Z for 1968 Hurst/Olds cars.

This may be a long shot but look at the oil fill tube near the top, Olds put a piece of tape on there, it has the engine code. QE is the code you are looking for.

    Good luck.

Saw the owner this weekend at a wedding. He's calling me in the next few days to set-up time to look at it! Patrick
