I am going to look at a 1969 GS. Solid southern car, repainted a year ago. Talked to someone who has seen the car, he checked numbers, everthing looks good. Car needs interior work. Bad news bumper is bent, grill is broke, and motor has spun bearing! 400 auto. Lead me in the correct path. Price is $5500.

Interiors are available as long as its NOT a California GS. Bumper can be had for ~500, Repro Grille gor $600 (plus another 1-200 for chrome surround) - Motor ?? well that could get costly if a complete rebuild is performed.

Check under battery, lower quarters, back low on fenders/rockers etc. .. usual rust spots

Price is probably not too bad, if as described. Of course a thorough inspection will tell for sure, fresh paint can hide problems too. The engine is a big wild card though. A complete rebuild "can" run 5k +. If not rebuildable, then he doesn't have a #'s matching car anymore. I'd consider offering less, like 4500.

I have seen a lot of 69's on ebay over the past 6 months. They mostly all had running motors. This one sounds a little banged up ... offer him 4000 and suggest to him to consider the extra $$ you will have to spend to make it presentable. If not, watch ebay for 69's. They seem to be plentiful recently. Good choice of a year to buy!!

I have always had a real love for the 68-69 body style (ask Alan). As far as what you posted the biggest problem I've seen in the past would be rust and body fit as far as doors, hood, bumpers, trunk. Good Luck! AL.

66cat- there are a few good threads here discussing what to look for on the 68-69 Buicks. Some parts are easy to find.... Other parts $$$$$$$$$. Good luck and post some pics if you can!:TU:

Can you really get a grill surround for $1-200? Seems like nice ones are just about impossible to find. I don't need one -- just sayin'. Realistically, he'd probably be stuck with what he has for quite a while.

The last nice surround I saw was a rechromed one that had a 'dip' in it and it sold for $300 +... So I would think a *NICE* one that was STRAIGHT would sell for $200+....

It sounds like a decent deal to me, provided it is as solid as stated. look it over close!!! take the door jab vents out n shine a flashlight in so you can see the rear wheel house area, look for filler there as well as the usual trunk rust. if it solid its worth the money you can replace motor, chrome and interior, you can't replace factory sheetmetal. :TU:
