I'm going to start some research for my "website" and I'd like to know when the LeSabre and Regal begins (year) and If you know some special edition of those 2 models (i.e convertible, turbo, t-top , GN year etc) I have nothing to sell and my little website is dedicated to old american car I'll try to have at least 1 pic of every year/model to see the "evolution" of some models like I did to some of the most popular Muscle car allready , thanx for your time and sorry for the ad which is not really one in fact ... it's a pastime that I like even more since I got my "ancient" , a 68 Skylark .

I found in Buick.net that the LeSabre were introduced in 1959 ! And I don't remember they were out of the "line-up" for a year so this have to be from 1959 to 2003 and counting ?

    The Regal T-Types were offered from 1980 to 1986...and the Turbo T (WE4) was a 1987 car...one year only.

Like Bruce said, the T-Type LeSabres were 87-89.

I believe the LeSabre has been in the Lineup every year since 59.

I found that Buick change some nameplate for 1959

What was the predecesor of the LeSabre ? Or was it a brand new car ??

I'd also like to know if someone knows the type of body the Lesabre is ? (i.e. A-Body F-body etc) And for the Regal if you could

Thank you for your time .

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

The '87-'89 LeSabre's are the only ones I'm really familiar with. They are the 'H-body'... same as the Bonneville. I suspect the newer ones are also.:Do No:

    The '78-'87 Regals were the 'G-bodies'....the '88-newer Regals are the 'W-bodies'. I believe the '73-'77 Regals/Centuries were 'A-bodies'.

The first Le Sabre was the 1951 Concept car. It was not badged as a Buick but as a GM experimental car. It looked like a Buick and in it's early days, it had a Dynaflow. The transmission was soon replaced by an Hydra-Matic.

In 1959, all Buicks had new names and the Le Sabre was the low priced Buick, It replaced the Special serises 40. The Le Sabre was the model 4400 from 1959 to 1964, save for the 1964 Estate Wagon that was part of the series 4600 like the Invicta and Wildcat were. In 1965 the Le Sabre switched to series 4500. The 1959 Invicta (4600) replaced the Century (series 60) and was again replaced by the Wildcat in 1962-1963 (the Wildcat name was introduced in 1962 on the Invicta two door hardtop as a trim option). In 1963 all the Invicta models were replaced by the Wildcat (exept the Estate Wagon which kept the Invicta name for that year). In 1970 the base Wildcat was again rebaged as a Le Sabre 455 While the Custom trimmed model kept the Wildcat name. In 1971, the Centurion replaced the Wildcat Custom and the Le Sabre 455 was an option package on the 4500 Le Sabre instead of having a distinct model number. The 1959-1961 Electra (4700) replaced the Super (series 50) and the Electra 225 (4800) replaced the Roadmaster (series 70). The 1959-62 Electra Riviera was a 6 window hardtop and was more luxurious than the regular Electra. It was more or less the predecessor of the Electra Limited.

    About the Regal now...
The name was used for many years on Studebakers before being picked by Buick.
The 1973 Century replaced the Skylark and it was available in 3 series. The Century, Century Luxus, Century Regal. There was also a Century Gran Sport but it was an option package. The Regal was available only on the two door hardtop model for 1973 but the 4 door model was introduced in 1974. the Regal lost it's affiliation to the Century in 1978 and also lost it's 4 door model. The 4 door Regal was reintroduced in 1982 when the Century switched to front wheel drive and it was cancelled again after the 1984 model year. There was also a Regal Wagon in 1982-83.
1n 1988 it switched to front wheel drive and in 1990 it was available as a 4 door again! In 1997, the two door version was dropped.

Adam, I think the Regal T/Type was still available in a part of the 1987 model year.

The predecessor of the Le Sabre was the 1936-1958 Special. It was the lowest priced Buick.
The rear drive Le Sabre (1959-1990) was a B body as well as the Invicta, Wildcat, Centurion, the Electra Estate Wagon and the ninties Roadmasters. Starting in 1986, the front wheel drive Le Sabre was an H body. It is still today the lowest priced "standard size" Buick (before 1961 there were no compact or intermediate Buicks).
All the Electras (exept Estate Wagons) were C bodies including FWD cars.
The 1973-1996 Centurys and 1973-1981 Regals were A bodies, in 1982 the "A" designation was switched to the new front drive Century and the Regal that was almost identical to the 1981 model was now a G body... in 1988 the Regal became a W body.

Does the 86 was a RWD , they look quite the same as the 85 ... and the 87 seems to be a newer gen ?

Starting in 1985, the Electra and Park Avenue coupes and sedans became FWD and the Le Sabres remained rear drive cars with full frame construction. In 1986 the Le Sabre coupes and sedans also became fwd and were similar to the FWD Electras. The only visual change in the 1987 Le Sabre coupes and sedans was a new grille and headlamps. In 1990 the Le Sabre coupe was dropped and the sedan received minor visual changes.
All the Estate Wagons (Electra and Le Sabre models) kept their old bodies (the one they had since 1977 with almost no changes for the Electra since 1980 and for the Le Sabre since 1984) until 1990. That year, the Electra and Le sabre nameplates were dropped and the car was simply named Estate Wagon but it kept the same B body. In 1991, the Estate Wagon received a new, more rounded body as well as the Chevy Caprice and was now part of the "new" Roadmaster series. The same year the Park Avenue also received a more rounded body and the Le Sabre followed in 1992.
