Hey guys, I am starting to recieve pieces of my complete interior order from Legendary . I ordered the correct white interior for my car and the bucket seat back panels arrived first. Not pure white, but reasonable. The rear armrests arrived today and they are nowhere near white. Parchment at best. I know that white in a 72 is , in fact, white. For you guys that have prdered white before , does this sound right? The packaging says white and the codes are the same as I ordered. If this is what Legendary calls white, I will need to return it all. Really disappointed. I appreciate the help. Steve
I've never had any problems dealing with Legendary. Did you request colour samples before finalizing the order?
Here are some pics. Note the contrast to a plain white piece of paper. For you 72 GS owners with code trim code 135 white interior, does this look right? Thanks, Steve
Steve, I did not as there was really only one white option indicated in their catalog for 72. The seat back is pretty close to white so I am hoping someone pulled a ream of parchment to cut these items. In fact, when I ordered the interior, the sales guy indicated that the plastic panels may need to be dyed a brighter white to match the vinyl. This outcome is backwards from that comment. They were great to deal with, so I am now just hoping it was a mistake on these pieces. Is your interior white ? Steve
My interior is '71 Sandalwood. A few shades darker than yours, pretty sure it was called Covert in '72. Make contact with Legendary & I'm confident they will rectify. I have their seat covers & door panels in my car.Very nice pieces.
Anytime you are dealing with white interior you may have to use some SEM to gets the various pieces to be the same shade.
Jim, I expected some of that on the plastic match, but I've seen countless white interiors that are newly installed and have not encountered any difficulty in getting a true white vinyl from suppliers. I'm feeling more and more that this may be a case of incorrect vinyl pulled to do the work, though you'd guess Legendary would be fairly careful about that. I know they are a top notch company, so I don't expect any problems. Just a hassle at my end to get things back to them, etc. I'm whining a bit, I know, but you know how it is when you spend a few bucks on this stuff and something goes awry. Thanks for the help, though. Steve
Steve, I will be glued to this thread... I was just getting ready to order my complete 70 GS pearl white interior (trim 175)from Legendary. I will hold off until I see what gets done for your issue. It looks off to me.. Good luck and please keep us updated..
Will be calling tomorrow am and will post results as soon as I hang up. I'm confident that things will be ok. I did my homework and looked at many 72 white interiors to verify that the white originally fitted was a very true white. I do also know that pearl white can be trickier, especially on the plastic item match, armrests, etc. Great color , though. I'll keep you posted. Steve
Hi Steve, Yes, please let us know how you make out - I need to order front armrests and armrest pads for my '72 in white. I did hear that Ames (Pontiac supplier) makes high quality armrests for a good price so I may check them out as well.
>>Good to know. I went to PUI's website but it doesn't seem like you can order directly from them? Is there a phone number or something?
Spoke to customer service first thing this am and sent a photo contrasting the vinyl to a white sheet of paper. Waiting for a reply as to next steps. I'll keep you posted . Thanks, Steve
Steve, I don't want to get involved with this but there are a few points that need to be made if you ordered the "correct" white for a 72 car. 1. 72 "white" is not a pure white, it is actually an off white. Just like 69-71 is pearl white and 68 interiors are pure white. 2. There is no way a "correct" 72 white interior color would match the color of a piece of paper. 3. The white repro seat backs never matched any of the interior colors, so they all would require being dyed the correct interior color. 4. PUI sells strictly wholesale, so if you want to get one of their interiors you need to contact someone like Mark Reeves (Then & Now) or another vender. I wish you luck with your task and am sure Legendary will come thru. Duane
Duane, thanks. Your input is always valuable and welcome. I used the white piece of paper only to show contrast in the photo, not to suggest that it was the correct "shade " of white. I am not sure what to expect in terms of what is the actual the correct shade , I'm not even close to having that much experience with these Buick cars. This particular piece just seemed well off and worthy of inquiry ( especially since it was the first I received). Now the good news for all interested in the outcome so far. First, I found the Legendary folks to be extremely helpful and very concerned with making sure things were right. They lived up to all the info I had heard and read about them. I did get a call back from the customer service rep who was confident that the wrong vinyl had been pulled for the pieces I recieved. He indicated that another set of rear armrests would be made in the correct 230G white. No need to return what was sent. He also verified that while white is a subjective description ( to your good points overall , Duane) , it would be pretty close overall to true white vs the parchment tone I had received. I will obviously feel better when I see a piece come through in that 230G white and have every confidence that Legendary will make it right. Whether the white I recieve actually matches the original white used by Buick in 1972 is another matter altogether and I need to be prepared to live with variation at that point, which I am. So , in summary, the Legendary folks are on it and have been great to work this thru with. An earlier post suggested obtaining a sample prior to ordering and I think that makes a lot of sense. My bad for skipping that step and getting to a place of alarm like I did. It's not pocket change to place these orders and worth the extra time to make sure the color is what you expect or is otherwise tolerable. Hope this is helpful and thanks very much for the help and advice. I'll post again when another vinyl piece arrives to confirm all is good. Thanks, Steve:3gears:
Duane, hoping you can clarify for me ( and perhaps others) what you meant in your comments about the rear seat replacement vinyl not matching the original color. I assume this is only a problem if front seats are original and rear is replaced, otherwise the same material would be used in front and rear repro seat covers , right? Is there someting unique about the rear seats I'm missing? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Also, do you have any photos of what the original 72 white interior looks like? Would be great to see it. Thanks very much. Steve
I recently ordered a set of white seat covers for my 72 Stage1 from Legendary also. I got a notice today that they were shipped via Fedex, so I should have them early next week. I'll post a pictute 0f them after they arrive. Larry
Larry, thanks very much. I assume you ordered the 230G color code in the Legendary catalog? Anxious to see . Steve
