How does everyone stop their side cover gasket from leaking? We tried a new gasket with sealer and it still leaks. Would it be better with RTV and gasket or maybe RTV alone? Is a leaky trans something Muncie owners have to deal with or is there a way? Sick of the dripping and mess on the undercarriage.

They leaked when they were new. Attention to sealing details. CLEAN/CLEAN/CLEAN.

I'm in the same boat with my saginaw. My mistake was pulling the cover off once in the car. Could seal the gasket after all the manuvering.

Get some good GM RTV, drain the oil out, clean the hell out of it, let it sit and air dry, apply a good bead of RTV and bolt the cover back on and let it sit for at least 24hrs and then refill. You will need a pry bar to get the cover off after that and it will never leak.

The shifter shaft seals also leak.

Good info guys. I will try the RTV only method. I plan on getting rid of my aluminum flywheel and race clutch as they lug too much and make noise so will take care of it then.

  7. Dave,

If you're planning on selling the flywheel and clutch, let me know.
