The inevitably happened: a pool of cooling fluid under my '55 Buick. I knew it was coming, disappointed nevertheless. I removed the waterpump already, but to my surprise there is a hole in the outer side of the cover just under the bearring (see pics). I checked all my '55 Buick books but no drawing is showing this hole. Anybody know wether it is supposed to be there? If so why and if not is this from another year? Thanks for the info.
Take a look at this thread........... http://dutchbuicks.proboards26.com/...evragen&action=display&num=1076066999&start=0
Erik the link doesn't work!! My experience is, that the hole you are seeing is supposed to be there. It is called a weep hole - specifically designed to start leaking when the seals in the pump go bad..... So it is telling you it needs to be pitched out the window
Leakage or intended Smartin, Erik's link works if you're a member.... His story is that, when starting the engine, a small amount of water will come out always and then it will stop. So which one is it? Intended to sprout some water or intended to indicate to ditch the part when it 'leaks' regards, Peter.
Just My .02, but all the Weep holes I've ever seen have only been about 1/8th in. in diamater and were allways nice and round. That hole looks way big and it isn't smooth all the way around Like a "Machined" hole should be. I think you should pitch it, or atleast see if a local parts store has a new one to compare it witho No:
Looks like it started out as a weep hole, but "expanded." I've never seen anything like that. I'd check on a different pump too.
It is a weep hole! For those interested: the weep hole is actually like it was manufactured. I've seen two other waterpumps by now (same year) and they look exactly alike. Nevertheless, the pump is as leak as can be, so I bought another one. cheers, Peter.
